Like when ezra was having a fair discussion with Arelex about the difference and abilities of both builds with out sulking that someone dissagreed. That was what some might call constructive conversation that reveals things to people who dont know anything about either build.

Conversation in any form, should never be limited by the threads subject. Esspecially when it is in direct relation to it by comparing the subject at hand to other options. Allowing those reading the thread to decide for themselves, with all evidence presented, which build and style they would rather go with for their next playthrough.

Or, by chance, something new is discovered in relation to both ideas that breaks the differences down and brings both ideas together into something entirely new and never thought of before. Something that could not have been discovered if the converstion had never taken the direction it did because it wasn't inline with what someone believed belonged in the thread in the first place.

The stifling of ideas or opposing points in converstaion is never a good thing.

No offense to anyone (/not joining in this pleasant teaparty going on) but I tend to agree with Arelex in that killing things faster is a lot more fun simply out-lasting opponents. Plus how can you resist pretty much becoming a jedi??! :P

However, a spirit healer doesn't have to be all about peace and love...
Anyway, another interesting build idea for the OP to consider is the elemental pure magic bloodmage/spirit healer where spirit healer is mainly used for vitality (to provide the constitution for a blood pool). This allows magic to easily reach 100 and dps to be competetive (or maybe superior) to bloodmage/forcemage builds which usually have to invest points into constitution (instead of completely into magic). Coupled with loads of +% elemental gear this build probably has one of the highest dps of any mage build. (This is Jack-Nader's build/ideas btw, we were discussing possible late-game build ideas on my thread.)

So I wouldn't say that a spirit healer build is solely about support. If you like dps and are planning on focusing on the damage-dealing spells from the elemental trees the choice between force mage and spirit healer isn't a choice between dps and a gameplay solely consisting of healing and buffing. It can also be a choice between the utility of force mage spells in terms of controlling the battlefield (e.g. dragging enemies together and out of stealth) and freeing up points such that you can focus on other things.

Just something else to consider.

Well to complement the spirit healer tree with offensive capability I'd pick up some "cheap" and strong skills, like upgraded chain lightning for example, as well as the glyphs, since they can be used with the healing aura on. Although you'll be turning it on/off as needed.

If you're going to play with anders you can then switch roles between them as needed, too.

So Spirit Healer is for people who don't have good control of their rudders?

:P

P.S - don't be a Wynne type, I hate Wynne. Please?

:(

I hope that's not the case ;).  My impression is that Spirit Healer is for people whose rudders are bulldozers without concern for safety; only "the prizeeeeeeee" is what matters.  Except the morning after, when the apologizing begins.

I will consider renouncing my Wynne-ness.  But there is a reason, after all, why the Spirit Healer in DA:O's name is pronounced "win," because that is what Spirit Healer is...WIN!  We're like the Charlie Sheen of the DA universe: winning and bi-winning.  Though I suppose I could think of myself as the, uh, Runic Golem type of player? :wizard:

I use a hybrid mage, with nuke, cc and healing abilities. No buffs and no revivals are the drawbacks, but sheer offense and survivability make this build immensely fun and effective.

ELEM- Everything but the FB upgrade.
PRIMAL- Rock Armor, Chain, Tempest and theit upgrades.
SPIRIT- Spirit Bolt, WB and Upgraded Death Syphon
CREATION- Heal
FM- MF and the stagger upgrade, Unshakeable, GR, TB and upgraded Pull.
SH- Healing Aura and mass heal upgraded.

This build plays like a typical BM/FM nuker with additional healing abilities. Mana pool is not an issue with Death Syphon active, so skew WP in favor of MAG. Don't forget to purchase the Robes of UC as this build was inspired by said item.

All in all, you have a batllefield controller, a nuker with all spells doing insane damage due to high MAG and the RoUC, along with 2 healing spells enhanced as well by the RoUC.

The skill trees aren't that diverse imo, play one damage build and they all feel the same... making a spirit healer or damage type build/s is more then about damage or healing or even CC (make your own mind up). It is about RPing the game as well. This game's skill trees are rather shallow imo and all the builds available are a little to obvious and mundane. The skill trees and game feel more like a shallow console action game then an rpg with diverse paths. Honestly OP play the game the way you want experiment and RP the game and build (hard to do in this title I give you).

I preffer Elemental to primal and in my experience on Nightmare when you accidentally nuked your companion you pretty much 1 shot them (unless they re your tank in which case elemental aegis/rune is highly advisable). Revive is a useful tool to have.

I can defenetely see the appeal of SH esp on nightmare. But then again there's a reason why ppl say good offense is the best defense. Paralyzing hermohage is a great spell for the high burst damage is provides when combined with stagger. Enemies have potions and againts Mages/ Assasins you often rley on taking them out as soon as possible, sadly chain lighting/ crushing prison doesnt do enough burst to do this.
