if Ashley and Kaidan are rolled into one group (as honestly they should be, since you can only have one of them come back) they will beat Tali in popularity as you have 2 fan bases voting instead of one.

Ashley? simple, plain minded alliance woman that hates everyone non-human (and in one day pay price for it) throwing everyone to enemy line beacause this is "not alliance, not human" even cerberus, blind to ideals that are ugly from inside from very beginning. Ashley is tool of an Alliance as Kai Leng tool of Cerberus.
Grunt can do a lot, he is a krogan and genetically upgraded to the max, he loves fights but still a kid when thinking that he is indestructible -> may backfire. He is a savage, strong, but it really makes no credit to him - he fight, nothing else or little else. Children love to some ultra big guy with a shotgun that takes a lot of hits and one kick tear wall to bits. But promising replacement for Wrex if given teaching.
Garrus? Tactician, general on a battlefield along with soldiers. Perfect team coordination, huge experience and training still lead him to near death state from the mercs hand.
Garrus is a friend that took a wrong way nearly paying for it, thanks the fate he avoided it.

not really because the actual aim is to see those people wanted the most before gameinformer and from their see if the full squad members and the short term squad mates match up to the the results

Then you might as well call it a "Squad member popularity poll", because what other motive would make me vote for Kaiden even though I know he's already confirmed other that my desire to see him at the top? this simple fact is skewering the results... that's if you're interested in real statistics of course, anyway it's your poll, let's see how it pans out.

I was wondering about that myself. Kaiden is often concidered to be one of the less interesting squadmates of ME1. To put it into context he is the Jacob of ME1.
Wrex should also be much higher up on that list given all the hype the charcter gets from ME1 and ME2 fans. Maybe gamers don't really expect Wrex to drop leading the Krogans to go flying around the Universe with Shepard.
As much as I love Miranda I don't understand how she got more votes than Garrus ( conventional wisdom suggests that not many people voted for Garrus because he is already confirmed as a ME3 squadmate ) so I think your data is flawed ( at least partially ). Still glad to see Miranda ranked very high on that list.

I doubt it. I see no reason to believe there's something fundamentally different about people who play Mass Effect and visit the forums and those who play Mass Effect and don't visit the forums.
