Please do not judge the entire nation based on the actions of a few very loud very crazy, hateful, and biggoted people. A lot of us are not like that at all. Enough of us, even, to be able to elect a black president.

Tell me, would Obama be president if he was a self-proclaimed atheist?;)

No way in hell.  A gay woman Rastafarian will get elected before an atheist.

edit: Make that a gay woman Rastafarian living in sin with two ex porn stars

This works if you also spell Miroslav Šatan using the caron and not resorting to the lazy S, but I agree that we should try to spell the names like Lidström properly and not use monkier version that butcher the names - sadly most are simply too lazy to respect peoples names, and sometimes it gets too hard to use some of the more exotic letters.

I really don't get why in sports they have to disrespect peoples names by simply using the most visually similar letter from the english alphabet, or after all his years in Detroit it wouldn't be really hard to have them use the O with umlaut as it indicates [ø] or [œ] (normally) and not /ˈoʊ/;

And it also bears noting that most of the governments currently existing in the "free world" are based off the model that the birth of the USA put forward.

Which came from the British and French philosophers. Not going to comment on the thread, but the idea of a republic didn't develop in America and most governments are actually parliamentary democracies, so the US congress is pretty unique.

:;ahem::  actually many scholars attribute the Iroquois Confederacy as the main inspiration for democratic government....   But that's another arugument altogether.

And widely off topic, the problem is that people from Sweden complain that people don't use the umlaut over the O to form Ö, and while I also find it annoying as the names/word changes meaning and sound ridiculous without them, but the problem is that most of us (I'm a Swede) have no problem with butchering names like Pavel Řezníček into Pavel Reznicek as if all those small marks have no meaning at all.

EDIT: And I hardly ask that people would in normal usage on forums etc, but I do find it utterly lazy when they do this in TV or newpapers as if they can't find a font that will support the caron or the umlat etc.

Anyway back to DA2.

Well hell I didn't know Swedes used an umlaut - thought it was a German thing.

It's used in several germanic languages, and apparently a few others - just to make this off topic post not totally redundant here is the list from the wiki for modern languages that uses it.

Afrikaans · Alemannic · Danish · Dutch · English · Faroese · German · Gutnish · Icelandic · Limburgish · Low German · Luxembourgish · North Frisian · Norwegian · Saterland Frisian · Scots · Swedish · West Frisian · Yiddish
It's also called a trema when not directly refered to as an Umlaut and it's used in many other languages groups and alphabets  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trema_%28diacritic%29

Anyway now that's probably over, or I'm done with this anyway.

So how did this turn into a bunch of Scandinavians bashing America? No offense but Europe as a whole has nothing I want here. We're all set here, just buy our stuff and quit whining about America not fitting your tastes.

Well the femininsts in the US are still battling you know - for equal pay, to preserve their right to choose... we leave the porn debate to the religious nuts.

I thought the whole "men make more money than women simply for being men" thing was already denounced as nonsense after looking at the facts.

Do men make more money overall than women?  Yes, but not due to sexism.  Men make more money than women because they work more, and put in longer hours.  They also tend to work in higher paying jobs.  For example, engineering jobs which tend to have high salaries are mostly filled by men.  There are plenty of other high paying jobs I can think of which are mostly male oriented.

When you add all of this up men come out on top, but not due to any sexism where in men earn more per dollar than women for doing the same amount of work.

As for gender equity in general, I have a lot to say on this subject.  It seems to me that the notion of gender equality exists only as an illusion.  What I mean to say is, if the two sexes are truly equal, then why do we need laws to enforce the equality?

In my philosophy, men and women are not equal.....they are different, especially in a complimentary sort of way.  Neither one is wholly superior or inferior to the other.

Laws and methods that enforce ARTIFICIAL equality only end up hurting both men and women, and thus Society in the end.

Let me give you an example.  Ever heard of gender norming?  It's a practice where in women are given reduced standards on tests or quotas so they can compete more favorably with men.

Now for someone like me (Politically Incorrect), I have no problem with women having more time to complete a mile and a half run, or doing less push ups, or pull ups to complete a physical aptitude test.  I understand and appreciate that women are made DIFFERENTLY than men, and therefore should not be held to the same standards.

But for the politically correct crowd, this obvious logic does not apply.  Instead of admitting that women are NOT just smaller versions of men, they lobby for reduced standards ACROSS THE ENTIRE BOARD.

In the end, not only does this allow more women to enter previously male dominated career fields, but it also allows SUB STANDARD MEN to enter as well.  Men that would never have passed the tests otherwise..

Okay, who decides that, then?  I'll be over in the corner with Friedriche Nietzsche trying to sort out all this moral certitude in a post-God environment.

Well, just between you and me, I don't really have any homoerotic feelings for Niklas (and whatever ornaments should properly be adorning any of those letters).  But I am on the Bioware boards, and sometimes I succumb to the pressure to fit in, you know?

So whats your point?  America is more religious/spiritual than Europe, we all know that..

This is both a weakness AND a strength..  Religion has been a catalyst for both noble and terrible deeds after all..

For me this is why it will never end, or if balancing different roles to be equal in a game like WoW is a case of boosting and nerfing back and forth ad naseum with surprises around every corner in the way of suddenly one being overpowering and in the next suppressed and oppressed, all while all sides think that they are nerfed and the rest are overpowered.

It's a stupid analogy, but I kind of use it on the world, and I don't mind that the lines can never be drawn but it will always be a kind of soft line that is not only almost impossible to define but is alive and changes with the times.

Personally I'm for feminism and I think that sort of movement should always be there, even when all seems well, as the currents of society will never stand still but will be fluid - and in the end its about more than money or even power.

Thus I also kind of like that there is an opposing side that works against it - even if I'm for some further progressive changes here in Sweden to further some of the economical and political equality - and does it risk going overboard and in the end place women on top? partly yes, and like with the analogy from WoW as I think its partly needed to find balance in the end, if only because the previously weak side will never admit to equality before they had a taste of being overpowered.

Not that it will really work, as people are far too limited in themselves to properly observe, as am I.

Neither Obama nor anyone black, white, green, purple yellow, gay, straight, transgender, woman or alien would have any chance of becoming a president of US, if he/she/it didn't believe in a magical wizard in the sky who created the earth in a few days 6000 years ago. It's quite pathetic and backward way of thinking actually. Religion has no place in 21st century.

i enjoy in games female body with nice shapes... Big breasts? whats the problem? A woman with a nice breasts is very beautyfull to see.. The problem starts when character in videogames don't have female personality..Isabela for example is almost a man interested only in ships drink and have sex..Lara croft another man stereotipe the classic nice shaped woman with pistols...This is what i dont like... Also in the witcher we have nice example of fine woman with personality..Triss or Shani for example are not only nice shapes woman but have a great and different personality..Bayonetta is another example of a woman shaped and designed for a male audience.. Im not aganis fine body.. i am aganist fine body without personality,,,

Im also wondering why someone see generous shapes of body as a scandal...

Carfax - I'm only going to address one issue -  the rest will not get either of us anywhere.

The latest data do, in fact show a wage discrepency that is not accounted for in the way you think it is.

I refer you to this article, which summarizes the latest findings:

http://www.time.com/...1983185,00.html

The wage gap has narrowed, but there is still a gap that is unexplained.

"Unexplained" is pretty far from "proof of sexism".

Not much.  I tried to narrow down the topic in the OP by excluding the tangential "body image" issues which have already been discussed to death, but they crop up anyway, in addition to other completely unrelated things like "the gender wage gap".  I suspect it's just impossible to discuss anything egalitarian without it sprawling out into a massive "patriarchy rahh rahh rahh" fest.
