... A spirit of Compassion? I remember it being mentioned that besides demons there are spirits of Justice, Fortitude, Compassion, etc in the fade, they were the makers first children. Could Zathrien possibly have bound a spirit of Compassion to the wolf to make Witherfang? After all, she took compassion on the Werewolves and helped them.

She (or maybe it was Zathrian, or one of the wolves, I forget), said Zathrian pulled her, not from the Fade, but from the forest itself. The fact that she only existed because of the curse, and her mention that pre-curse, she had no sentience, makes it seem like she's not that kind of spirit.

That doesn't mean she isn't a spirit of compassion (or any other kind of spirit). The question would then be, how did she come to inhabit the forest prior to being summoned by Zatharian?

The fact that it specifically stated that the spirit didnt come from beyond the Fade seems to be a pretty good argument for the fact that she isn't THAT kind of spirit.
