I am not killing you guys but just saying you could kill yourself. As in if you chose the US ending it is nothing like 'Return of the king'. Alternatively send Alistair away or get him killed. If you choose the 'Return of the King' ending you are hardly in a position to complain about it.

Who's complaining ?

I completed multiple times with Alistair as king,  The mute Warden sacrificing himself,  Loghain becoming a Warden and getting redeemed etc.

In each of the ending the arch-demon in slain and the tower blows up,  just like Return of the King.

I half expected "Directed by Peter Jackson" in the credits B).

I'm not saying that DA2 ending blew my mind but the Meredith fight was much more fun that the end game fight of DA:O.

in many many cinematic ways the ending to dragon age 2 was much much better than origins. it wasnt as complete as origins though, which really only leaves one thing to be added which i found extremely lame in the first one but most people seem to love.

all they have to add is a patch that adds a voiceless epilogue chapter that you read like a final chapter of a book that details what everyone did immediately after. thats it really. if they gave that to everyone right away the only complaints you would hear are the ones from the people bound and determined to hate everything about the game cuz it was made for consoles.

in any case i found the ending very similar to that of me2. dramatic conclusion that doesnt really conclude anything. its a precursor of things to come is all. obvioulsy the game starts with the ever popular notion of starting every movie and game these days at the end. so you had to know from the beginning that everything would be far from peachy keen at the end of this one. hard to miss that if you paid any attention in the intro.

on a personal note im kind of tired of that way of cinetmatically telling a story. i liked the story, and i liked the game, but i im starting to hate games and movies that in the first 5 mins show you how everything will pretty much end or come to a head, and the rest of the movie is the anticipation of that moment. its a pretty cheap way of making people pay attention imo. but thats just me.

Ahh.  I was starting to wonder if the United States had an altered version of LOTR hehe.  Well the book anyway.

Really?  I felt the complete opposite.  Meredith's antics were over the top cheesy and Harvester Orsino made no sense whatsoever.  It felt like they were just trying way too hard to make this situation, which was far less dire than an archdemon horde laying waste to Ferelden's capital, as 'epic' as DAO.  DAO had a fantastic buildup and I for one was completely into it at the Battle for Denerim.

Which brings up another point I've been meaning to mention.  Epic speeches.  Alistair's was perfect.  The VA, the music, the dialogue, it was all excellent.  "Today, we save Denerim.  Today, we avenge the death of my brother King Cailan."  It felt like even though you're facing down a larger army with superior firepower, Alistair wasn't just rallying his troops, he was stating facts with the absolute conviction in his voice.  When he gives the charging yell for Ferelden and the Grey Wardens, I felt like jumping up out of my computer chair and charging with them.  What's Hawke's dramatic finally speech?  I don't know how much it varies depending on choices and personality, but my Hawke told everyone she was buying a round of drinks.  I didn't even realize that was the "epic inspiration speech" until someone told me.  Epic fail.

I especially agree with the bolded text. Meredith and Orsina are probably the worst villains I have witnessed in a videogame...ever. I didn't find either very threatening and both were poorly developed.

Sidenote: Kreia from KOTOR 2 is probably my most favorite videogame villain ever. I played that game many times over again just for her.

Orsino's staff turned Meredith into a statue when she had her orgasm. That's some potent stuff.

I'm curious what would bring Hawke and the Warden together, or towards the same goal, if Leliana is right about their common disappearance being linked. Also, why would a pro-mage Hawke help Cassandra? I was never clear on what she expected to offer or tell him that would have gotten his support, especially since she assumes that he and his apostate sister were spreading subversion against the Chantry.

The Seekers watch the Templars who've just broken free of the Chantry to fight a war against the mages. Cassandra doesn't want to keep the status quo; she seems to want to restore some semblance of the past.

I think the war, on a broader scale, is the same as Kirkwall: the mages can't win. They could hurt the templars, cause havoc... but in the end their numbers are too few. So a mage Hawke might want peace to allow the magses to survive, on the condition of future freedoms.

I don't agree. I don't think Cassandra would be tryng to negotiate a truce with the mages if she thought they could be crushed. We're informed that the Circle mages were an edge for the Chantry forces against the Qunari armies and their advanced technology, and I don't think the Circles would have been able to break free from the Chantry and the templars in the first place if they couldn't win. Clearly, the mages were able to get enough success for the Circles of Magi to emancipate themselves.

I actually agree with you on this point.  I think that Lelianna and Cassandra and the Seekers (and presumably the Divine) somehow want to put this genie back in the bottle.

Ain't gonna happen.  The only thing that keptthe mages in the circles to begin with was the threat of death by the Chantry (see Wynne in DAA).  Now that the Templars are trying to kill them anyway, the mages have nothing to lose and therefore no incentive to negotiate with the Chantry.

I think the war, on a broader scale, is the same as Kirkwall: the mages can't win. They could hurt the templars, cause havoc... but in the end their numbers are too few. So a mage Hawke might want peace to allow the magses to survive, on the condition of future freedoms.

This is where I think you are badly mistaken.  If it were just the mages vs everyone else, then you might be right, but it's not.  The Templars themselves are nowhere near as popular as they once were and because they've divorced themselves from the Chantry don't have the moral authority or supply chain (read Lyrium) that they once did.

Fereldan in particular looks to be a mage haven, and I fully expect that many other secular rulers will follow suit now that the Chantry will be unable to call an Exalted March without people falling over in Laughter (it was the Templars who formed the nucleus for the White Divine's Armies  for the Exalted Marches).  If mages can get some secular rules to back them (or at least stay out), then the mages have a real shot at winning ESPECIALLY if the Qunari decide to invade (which I think they will).

This brings up a good question.  The Chantry controls the lyrium trade, templars need lyrium to do their anti-magic stuff.  What happened after the templars seceded from the Chantry?  They must be getting their lyrium still because if not then there's no way they could hunt the mages.  Not only would they not have their anti-magic abilities, most of them would go into lyrium withdraw and be completely delirious.

Templars don't need lyrium to perform their skills. It just amplifies them. Alistair tells you this.

But Templars that are addicted to lyrium need it, because without it they go into withdrawal which can kill them.

Sadly yes that is true. It can kill them. Samson was lucky he didn't die from withdrawal.
