It seems the site just reached 50.000 users (as shown by the url if you check the user profiles).

Not bad for a site focusing on a game that is not even out yet.

Not all registered users will be purchasing the game upon release though. Some of us are from the old Bioware site and owners of prior games, but simply do not have interest in DA:O or at least are not inclined to buy it just yet. Posted ImagePosted Image

You people make me sick.

Heh.

If you like BioWare's games and are into the fantasy RPG genre, this game should be a no-brainer. Trust me, it's that good.

Personal mantra: no money in the bank, no talk about buying luxuries. I welcome donations via cash and cheque to contribute to Amberyl Ravenclaw's DA:O Purchase Charity Fund, btw.

That's 50000 confirmed buyers.

No, it isn't. Although the vast majority of registered users will be getting the game (by virtue of being regulars on the old DA:O boards), many are not here because of the game.

Isn't this tied to some EA thingomajigs? Are you sure it's exclusively people that have joined THIS site, and not just everyone and his mother that is registered to the EA thingomajig?

User IDs are unique to this site. If somebody has #50,000, it's because there are at least 50,000 registered users here. The only tie to EA in that regard is that if you have an account here, you will also have an EA account.

I am willing to donate $1 for said charity, if you provide transparent and auditable accounting :)

I think I may not get the game right at release, and I would presume due to the anticipated popularity of this game I may just get digital download off of steam because the stores will sell out. I want to get a steam account anyways 'cause my roomy just started to play halflife2 again.

I'm really really looking forward to this game, however life isn't cooperating time-wise atm =]

Is donating to that charity fund tax deductible?

Replaying baldur's gate repeatly this last year has got me believing in Bioware like full on again. The extra time they put into this project is reassuring. It's hard to wait now heh ... !

I think the game will do well, most likey over 3mil units sold.

Wow. You completely pulled this number out of your ass.

But thank you for your highly detailed and professional calculation.

That would apply to any number at this point. Might as well hope for the best.

A massive advertising push does wonders to a game's popularity. I'm just curious as to the amount of money they spent on this!

Yeah it does. Although I still doubt they spent 25 million on advertising alone like Valve did with L4D2.

This game's main revenue will be from PC gamers. But it is not easy to track PC retail sales since now there is digital distribuition (Valve never releases the sales data on Steam). I don't think it's going to do that well on the consoles, but i could be wrong.... again.

Same here. I have decided I won't be getting this game on release date. I checked with my local gaming store (New Zealand btw). I got a mild heart attack upon hearing the price. Let's just say it's above $110.

Woah! That's insane. Can't you try an online retailer for a digital download instead? Steam/D2D? Should be much cheaper.

Even if not all those who've registered intend to buy it off the bat, that's still a hefty sum! That, coupled with those who buy at release and aren't registered, as well as all of those who buy it over the course of the next couple months... is a rather large number. Even if it did pan for some reason, the numbers alone would be more than enough to justify making a sequel. ^_^

The weird thing is, L4D2, another game I am planning to buy, because I am a Valve fanboy is $40 cheaper. The thing is New Zealand is a small market and game devs want to make sure they squeeze every penny out here as much as they can.

fair - What store are you talking about? EB Games? On Mighty Ape L4D2 and the regular edition of DA: O for PC are the same price ($90).

Nah, I am talking about the local gamestore in New Zealand that is a retail shop. I did not pre order the game via online. I just checked the price of DA:O with the staff at the shop and they said $110

I'll be getting the game twice.

I originally pre-ordered a 360 Collector's Edition, because I wasn't sure what the system specs were going to be and my rig is 3 years old now and I like playing on my big-ass old-school (i.e. no DVI or HDMI) HDTV. After the system specs were annonced I saw that my rig was well above minimum and just a shade under recommended in most areas (CPU and RAM) that I bit the bullet and picked up some overtime and pre-ordered it as well.

I'm just a consumer harlot when it comes to Bioware stuff, since BG2 at least.
