Anyway will get to work sending a pm soon then. Which Dev(s) are in the best postion to answer these issues?  Stanley? Jesse? Christina?  Or shall I do a round robin to a few so they all know its an issue we would like to see replied too?

Personally, I'd say Christina at the very least, and Jesse too.  If they're not going to deal with things directly (they may not deal with it at all!), then they should hopefully (fingers crossed!), point the Animation guys towards it, who may or may not take this onboard.

After all, we've got a wee while until release, so whilst the art assets and so on will probably be locked, I can see some room for manoeuvre...

Tim

I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite thread on the forums.

Agreed!

I hope the devs take time to read these suggestions, witch are all great IMO. Playing as a FemShep IS Mass Effect for me. She is my character and she is important.
My major issue is hair. We need more hairstyles, and if the devs don't have too much time to spend with plastic hairs, just add the ones we already use with modding.
Those simple details make a huge difference in our game :wizard:

Do we know any animators that post on the forums? Christina is a gameplay programmer and Jesse is a producer. Would be nice if we could have firsthand input from the animation team.

She is the main protoginist of the game for a lot of people.  She's not an npc or a character you can load up and play a few missions with as a bonus....she is the star of the game.

That's why she is essentially an "easter egg" in the game.  Hope you don't mind the plug, Crash.

Aye, agree to much said here.

- More muscles
- Unique animations, but as a female marine would walk (I dunno? Go to Parris Island and see?)
- More gender tailored dialogue

Give Femshep her own rig and give her her own animations. Using the male rig in ME2 was a step backwards.

They need to fix that in ME3 and DA2.

There is much more I could say but these are my feelings on the subject.

Thanks for taking the time to post Heather.

I think its hard not to say that ME2 went backwards in terms of animations for femshep.  Although Lady Hawke wasnt perfect, her animations were at least unique on the most part and was a big step forwards for Dragon Age players.   Its sad that one division of Bioware recognised a fault with the first game and made forward steps. Then another division decides to strip it away entirely.

I agree. I think since animations appear to be the biggest issue communicating with someone who works directly on it would be a priority. The other issues are based on marketing and scripting.  We can always politely ask see if one the Devs can answer or get someone in the right section to let us know their plans.

Fixing the animations is my main issue. I'm not sure what kind of budget they have so if they have anything left to fix something, is the femshep animations for me. Please don't make me go Sharon Stone on any Admiral ever again.

Just going to say this.

My 'Noel' Shepard looks great, but I have noticed the clipping, especially with the Tactical Visor and Helmet. I agree with everything in this thread, and I'd love a style like Chell from Portal 2 (Second post) for the hair. Just hoping that this thread is read by a dev and they take your recommendations.

Is it just me, or is Femshep the only one that is easy to make look good. It's so hard for me to make a Male Shep without him having a huge forehead or 'caveman' look. Does anyone else have this issue?

You're complaining about running into a "Sharon Stone moment" after you decided to run around on your military craft in a cocktail dress.

You can get similar if you do Samara's loyalty quest and use the black dress. Is it also not acceptable to wear such a thing to the AfterLife VIP room?

All of the animation and posing when wearing the dress, perhaps with the exception of the Shadow Broker epilogue, is broken, no matter the situation. If they weren't going to change the poses when wearing the dress, they shouldn't have included a dress at all with the Kasumi DLC.

All of the animation with Shepard is broken in general, IMHO (as I said in an earlier post, and that goes for both maleShep and femShep), but it is especially broken with femShep and double especially broken any time any player elects to have femShep wear the dress.

The Sharon Stone moment with the admiral is a symptom and an example, not the whole disease. And, it's Shepard's ship. If she wants to wear a cocktail dress, she is free to make that choice. :P

Excuse me? Where did I do what? I'll ask you again. Does not wearing that black dress make the animation problem go away?

No. The problem is not the dress, but the fact that the base animations for both genders are to put it politely, horrible. Just look at the way Shepard walks, or runs and it should be immediately obvious to anyone that they don't look right.

The dress is just being used as an example to show  that the animations for male Shepard were transfered to femshep, rather than her being given her own unique animations, (which she had in ME1) so that she actually moves like a female.

Not to play a devil advocate, but are you guys sure ME1 had separate rigs for males and females? I won't dispute that in ME1 the female walk/run animations looked better on females, but I was under impression that it was still the same rig for both genders.

It seemed that in ME2 they tried to improve the ME1 animations, but did so without accounting how it would affect the female actor.

I'm sure some of the animations are shared across both genders in ME1, but since femshep has her own walking and running animations in the first game, (and she actually moves like a female) it's less of an issue. ME2 has both genders using the same animations and while they look bad for maleshep, they look even worse on femshep.

Well, I played both, Male- and Femshep and I gotta say, I wouldn't want the developers to go overboard on improving on that particular point.
I thought in 99% of the cases, Femshep was done just fine and I wouldn't want the devs to spend a month to get long hairstyles just right (besides, IIRC Maleshep has even less hairstyles :)). I'd rather have them spend more time on quests and locations. Same argument goes for one or two rather specific animations.
I know, this thread will probably swoop down on me now but it's my opinion that Femshep was integrated rather well in ME2 and I'd be just happy if she returned as she was and the team would focus on other issues.
Just my 2 cents right there.

The animations are a big problem, all the females walks like they have balls btw their legs, femshep doesn't feel unique/special.
@MrFob I appreciate your opinion, but IMO most of the people don't have problems with the quests or location. Some female players and male, that enjoy roleplaying and playing don't like having their characters running around like they have invisible balls...we just want the animations back and variations. In the game industry some companies over sexualize females, they tend to make them (the boing boing half naked character) I am grateful because Bioware has done a decent job. Male Shepard already feels special, I just want the same treatment for femshep.

Not wearing the dress fixes one of the symptoms, but it doesn't cure the disease.  Frankly, I don’t expect there to be a dress in ME3 and that’s fine.  Still, her animations need to be fixed and both genders could use w/ a bit more love in that department to be honest.

After playing in the character creator last night, I just wanted to add:

- Please remove the duckbill look from femshep face presets, especially the last one. Yikes!

I would say that the amount of hair styles in not a problem. The fact that hair doesn't look like hair is a problem, for both male and female characters. Longer hair makes this issue even worse for female Shepards.
