I play a wizard most of the time, so it is very inconvenient when my meat-shield walks into a convo trigger and bang! There I am, fiddling with component pouches and spellbooks while the opponent happily runs me through. Well, no more!
I recently learned from Eguintir Eligard that if you check the "can talk to non-player owned characters" in the properties tab of an NPC, that will keep this behavior from happening.
This is so simple, but I had never run across it, so I thought I would throw this out there for anyone else who hadn't heard yet.
How to make your character stop teleporting to the front during conversation and getting killed

By altering the campaign spawning script it is simple to make most creatures have this flag set. This is what I do in the OC Makeover and MotB Makeover. It can cause some issues with conversations that are designed to only work with the main PC though.

Yeah, I had the same issue with a stealth mission in the OC. Neeshka managed to sneak past most of the guards, but then BAM! my main char was teleported into the middle of the house and couldn't get out unseens.

In several spots in my campaign I wanted to keep the PC as the main speaker, but also wanted to prevent a wizard from being thrown into the front lines. To do this a placed a waypoint behind the speak trigger. At the end of the convo there was 2 choices.
1 Attack, this would cause the monsters to turn hostile and the battle to start with the PC in the front line. -Default-
2 Attack from back of party. The PC would jump to the waypoint behind the trigger and party.
Once the script is written you can just plug in the waypoint script and reuse it for any battle. It will help out the spellcasters and ranged PCs a bit during plot conversations that the PC should be part of. You can also go and get the GetFactionStrongestMember and drop them into the PC original position.

Shaughn, that is a very clever solution! I am going to use that and tell everyone that I came up with the idea and you copied me!
