Can Carver be friendly?

Now I wonder if it is at all possible, given the big rivalry he already has at start. Considering also that he appears only when you're a mage. He hates mages worst than Fenris (well, maybe the same as Fenris) so the typical situation should place you at odds with the little ******. You have to be protemplar all the way. I' towards the end of act 1 and have barely taken him to the middle of the F/R line.
Has anyone achieved this? I mean to reach the point where he gets his friendly talent. Or shouldn't I bother? Maybe he's just meant to be your rival.

I think the reason you can't gain full friendship is that him joining the templars is pretty much the ulitmate smack in the face (considering that Hawke is a mage). As a plot device, they had to leave room for this to even be feasible. Why would he ever do such a thing if he were at 100%?
ETA: For the record, Carver does not "hate mages worst than Fenris". If you, in fact, side with the Templars at the end of the game it makes him really angry.

Plus having him at friendship does not fit the canon relationship between Hawke and Carver, since the codex states he's been jealous of his brother and bitter at being overshadowed his whole life.tehprincessJ wrote...
Pretty much what everyone else has said. I've personally tried to get him at 100% - I pandered to him terribly and still couldn't reach full friendship. Now, I'm just as nice as possible, I look out for his feelings, and I bring him and Anders every time I go to the deep roads. It's amazing how much he grows as a person from start to finish.

Anyway, for the game mechanics part of it, Carver's DA wiki has a nice break down on his friendship/rivalry gains:

"Carver begins the story with a preexisting tilt towards rivalry, so attempting to achieve full friendship is a challenge only for the dedicated repeat player. Supporting the Templar position of controls for mages will please him, though don't assume that he's somehow the antithesis of Bethany: he's by no means brutal or ungallant."

Seriously, though. It's wrong about that and a slew of other things.

OP: if you manage to make Carver friendly, would you let us know? Now I'm curious too. :^)

Yeah, I'm playing a game now where Hawke made him a Warden and just ran into him in the second Act. His disposition towards Hawke was much more mature. It was pretty cool. I'm looking forward to running into him in the last act.llandwynwyn wrote...
You can only see the difference in Act 2/3 and, I think, with GW Carver.

Carver the Templar is always a d-bag. Carver the Grey Warden is actually kind of cool. I wouldn't mind a DLC of Carver/Bethany as a Grey Warden. Maybe get a chance to meet up with other Grey Warden characters from Awakenings.
