It is supposed to upgrade your companions armor per the instructions. Not gonna explain the jist of it, but what I've found relevant to it.. Curiosity got the better of me, so I booted up a game from Act 3 early on in it.. What I found was that the companions do not have their preset armor on in there inventory, but the game recognizes it as being so..
What does that mean? It means that you can equip new armor, hands, feet, head and chest and they will stack with the invisible preset companions armor. Meaning  that you could theroetically have 2 Valiance runes equipped along with their own idividual stats and runes equipped prior to the mod installation.
I'm not sure if the developer is aware of it, but this is a hidden boon actually. Thought I'd just share what happened. In essence it makes your toons alot more powerful, to get to the basics.

Hmm, yes, stat stacking. Is it my mod you're speaking of (mine is the only one I know of that affects the companions' upgrades)?

I'm aware of it. It's correctable in a game-in-progress by editing your save to delete the special follower armor item.

I have an idea on what to do, and it will be implemented when my mod enters a feature-complete beta stage.

I finally found your armor in ACT2..the price is ridiculous tho..112g+ per for each companion, is a lil ridiculous, yet impossible to obtain thru normal means.. Nice stats, now just need a gold dispenser or an ingame credit card.  :)

Personally, I'm an upstanding customer with the Bank of Console, but that price is pretty steep for those who have not yet "opened accounts" with the good ole' BoC.
