True. However, strong, likeable male-leads hasn't exactly been one of Bioware's strengths as of late.

Now you're getting to the heart of it: It's entirely possible for Shepard to take down Kai, but recall that Kai Leng is an assassin with exceptional hand-to-hand combat capabilities. In Retribution, he takes out a group of armed turian guards in a matter of seconds, with his knife. He also took out a krogan with his bare hands at some point. Anderson himself couldn't stand against Kai Leng until he got a shotgun/pistol.

That's not to say Shepard isn't up to the task, but I doubt Shepard is that efficient when it comes to CQC. The one person who I do think would take down Kai in a hand-to-hand fight is Thane.

I do hope that this is the case.  Although until we get some kind of confirmation that Sanders likes to recite French poetry whilst picking wildflowers (for Shepard, natch), I will remain cautiously pessimistic.

Who says he's a lead (by which I assume you mean "romance option" because no other definition of "lead" fits)?

Kaidan and Jacob, both male alliance soldiers, were lead characters in ME/ME2. Sanders is a male alliance soldier, thus, I assume he will be a leading character.

I know, not the best logic, but its a trend that has remained a constant in the ME series.

I know, not the best logic, but its a trend that has remained a constant in the ME series. 

They're potential LI's, and thus count as "leading men".  But otherwise they're not "lead roles" in the usual sense. That's what I meant.  In that sense, Shep is the one and only lead in ME, male or female.  Everyone else is in a supporting role, with varying degrees of importance.

is it just me... or am I the only one seeing the badly translated words ''shepards team has fallen apart from the second part of mass effect'' I don't think the 3 is supposed to be there. They are talking about mass effect 2 then his ties to cerberus... am I missing something here.

Because that's what Bioware calls them. In an interview sometime before ME2 was released, someone from Bioware said Jacob was the lead male like Kaidan. Miranda was the leady lady like Ashley. I know I've seen Alistair be called the male lead of DAO, too.

Yes, because they're leading men, which means "romantic interest". I've already explained the distinction in senses of the term "lead".  Unless James Sanders is a romance option, which is who we're talking about here, he's not a lead in any sense. He's a supporting character.
