Is it possible (timeline wise, do we know how old Kai Leng is?) that both he and Shepard were trained together, or in the same squad/unit, or assigned to the same garrison at some point in their early alliance careers?

Maybe they even met during special forces training seeing as how they're both N7.

I'd love it if when we finally meet him in game, Shep knows all about him, knows his history, and its almost like a reunion of sorts before they finally face off against each other...

No, it's not James Sanders. That's just a very poor assumption people made based on pretty much nothing. It's almost certainly Kai Leng because it pretty much fits his description in Retribution exactly.

the "james sanders" description isn't a caption. if it was, the picture would have the same red background as the james sanders paragraph.

Just want to point out that the guy has almost the same armor as that female Cerberus assassin with the sword, so I'm pretty positive that it's Kai Leng.

I'm not exactly sure it will be like that:

you know, i always wondered, now that shepards cabin is already full of decorations, how will he make room for more in Mass Effect 3?  I think this answers that.  Kai leng is going to kill Shepard's fish and break his little ships.  Unforgivable.  If he breaks 1 ship he's going out the airlock, even if there is a recuitment option.

No dev has confirmed that it is Leng or Sanders above the caption in the GI article, so it is up in the air at this point.

That's really not much to go on. P.S. It has been confirmed that James is a heavily muscular guy, which doesn't quite go well with that guy in the picture you speak of.

I do see some discrepancy with the overall figure of the picture and James Sander's description, as Leng is asian and the GI article person's image does appear to be asian.  Also he isn't real muscular as you said Sanders is.

Also there looks to be some physical augmentation to the hands and eyes (almost Deus Ex: HR-like), which would work well in stealth to give quick movements and higher ocular sensitivity.  Which would be perfect for a stealthy assassin looming for the kill.

But, hate to say it, unless it's confirmed that that pic is indeed Leng, it is speculation.

See now he's gone too far, I can get behind or move past the Alien hating, or shooting Jedi wanna be's, or even screwing with Aria given her mouth.

But killing my fish and breaking all of those kick ass models...now thats going too far.

Impossible; Shepard's fish are already contractually obligated to die due to Yeoman Chambers's lack of attention. :-P

I just hope Leng is the cool kind of villain that you want to kill. Maybe he's tracking Shepard, and we see a handful of scenes where he utilizes some pretty killer skills to track you.

I don't know whether this is Kai Leng, a squadmate, or someone else entirely, but whoever it is, Mess Sergeant Gardner is gonna be pissed, he's making a mess!
