In both DA2 and DAO the played game time is always counted when you're in the game, so also when you're in pause, pause menu, inventory, tactics and such (just checked it myself )

I thought the length was ok in DA2, 35 to 40 hours is good.

I agree with the other folks who said it was both too short and too repetitive. For the same price I got twice as much game in DAO and got to see lots of different places. I've played through DA2 about 5 times now and I could almost walk those maps with my eyes closed. It isn't "new" just because you start at the other end. Whoever decided that map originality was a good place to cut corners in dev. time/money really dropped the ball. I also wanted more interaction with my companions (esp. my love interest) in act 3 when I'm supposed to have known them for years. They spend more time with each other than with me it seems :)

Another vote for "too short, too repetitive". It was fun, to be sure, and I don't wish the repetitive content was gone, but in a really good game, the repetitive busywork is a sort of bonus for completionists who are happier the more stuff there is for them to complete. You should be able to skip it and still feel like you got a whole experience. In DA2, on the other hand, not doing the busywork (the fetch quests, the "run around until you trigger stuff to kill" quests, the resource hunting, the "interact with an object then kill a bunch of demons" quests) leaves you with a pretty skinny game. That's a little off.
