Merely a question that I posit based on the following:
- As it is, DA2 is relatively short and replay value is quickly fading (opinion), even with the interesting mods that have been cleverly devised without a working toolset (my hat's off to all of you wonderful modders, you know who you are, and if you don't, odds are you aren't).
- Patch 1.02 has, apparently, fixed a few things, but I believe it hasn't patched up nearly enough to justify another playthrough. Indeed, the import feature, which is probably one of the most appealing features of DA2, has not been fixed, though it has been discussed in length how to work around this particular problem by use of the GFF editor.
Assuming it's in Bioware's/EA's best interest to keep players engaged in DA2, at least till the rumored release of ME3 in November, that would leave some seven months - roughly - in which additional content should be introduced to keep the game alive in the minds of players worldwide.
The question is, when? When will future DLC be released?
I think it bogs down to the following question:
"Can DA2 1.02 make it through May on its own merits?"
How long can it stay on the minds, PCs, consoles, etc., of players before we see any new developments? Could a future Patch 1.03 add replay value and push off the release of new DLC?
What do you think?
Could future DLC come out in May?

I'm not asking whether we should buy further DLC or hands down refuse based on our opinion of DA2, but rather how soon should future DLC be released if DA2 wants to remain in the spotlight.

Given past Bioware titles I'd say May sounds about right, yeah.

Given the state of DA2 it had better be free.

It better be $10 - $15 so that this game can fail more, so that EA and Bioware can get their game straight. They are still in deny that this game is bad.

It would be nice if they did do 'something' for free, both as a nice gesture and to be like ME2, which did some free DLC before charging. But whether its free or expensive or anything in between, I hope it starts coming out soon, its been way too long already! I understand they needed to focus on the patches and everything, what with all the bugs and all, but really the DLC could make the game SO much better and more fun, hopefully they will start the DLC-train rolling soon!

rushed DLC won't fix a rushed game. even good DLC will struggle which puts BioWare in a rather difficult position. release rushed DLC that probably won't sell well and will get bad reviews and tarnish the reputation even more, or wait and take their time to release something good but take the chance of whether or not many of us even have DA2 installed still by then

I also believe that they are in a rough spot, pertaining DLC in this particular case. It would have to be spectacular, or the negativity that already exists might increase vastly. I've not bought any DA:O DLC because I found them sub-par and not worth the money and effort, and I love DA:O.
To me, they have shown that they are not very good at producing DLC and Add-ons (no, I have zero interest in Awakening as well). So they would have to really bring out the gold and/or A-team for DA 2. Somehow i doubt it would be worth it time- and cost wise, but I'm not familiar with the creation steps for software, so that's simply a guess.
A lot of people I know have already uninstalled/returned/re-sold their copy of DA 2. So those people will likely not bother with re-installing it simply for DLC. I'm not sure, but I believe that 2nd hand copies can't be re-registered under a new owner, which would make purchasing DLC quite difficult, and also not worth the bother. Although I'm not sure about that. I've no real clue how DLC works.
Reading through the boards, and talking to other gamers also gives me the impression that people seem to be getting tired and jaded about the whole DLC deal in general. Not just toward bioware/ea, but toward all companies that seem to think they can grab a quick euro through a minimum amount of work.

They need to get rid of the major bugs in the console versions before they even start thinking about DLC.

Given that 5-weeks after release DA2 has already dropped into the shop discount bins, DLC sales would not cover advert costs let alone production costs...
Not even a sniff of DLC announcement from EA/BW at this point says it all. Besides, it would only provoke another round of DA2 hate... DLC seems highly unlikely...

Maybe the backlash from a lot of us has knocked their dlc schedule off balance? A $10usd 60 min no replayability mission that involved yet another trip to the wounded coast/ copy and paste cave would have been slammed. So i suspect they want to really go all out for the dlc, whether that will bring back fans or not depends on how good it really is. Say a 5-8 hr add on, completely different environments( a mission to Orlay for example) for $10 would be pretty well received. But can they bring it out before we all all too busy playing The Witcher2 to notice? And would it be financially sound policy ? IF they dont bring any DLC out then heads will have to rolled in the da2 design team.

I going to be cautious about buying anything more from the Dragon Age franchise after my experiance with DA2 - not to say i didnt like it at all, but it left a bit to be desired - and i kind of wish i hadn't got so hyped for it. I also wish i hadnt pre-ordered and read up on it in the time leading up to release, it just wasnt that great. Im still a fan though. and im interested to see what they bring out. I will echo someone aboves comment about the lack of details though, seems a bit odd that they havent tried to keep the momentum rolling and spill some teasers or something to keep DA2 on peoples minds. Like someone else above stated - hopefully the lack of any real info is because they are so hard at work making something really good and its taking time - like all good things.

It's probably just finishing some quest n fighting a tough boss in the copy-and-pasted cave.
Not worth it.

Do any of you guys know when the first dlc for Dragon Age: Origins came out?

I think it would make a lot more sense to first release patch 1.02 (1.03 for PC), and then focus on DLC. But I haven't touched the game since March 20th, as I am rather apathetic towards it.
If they'll release SOME form of free DLC, i'll probably play it. Otherwise, not interested.

the first DLC was Awakenings I believe, and it took a while for it to come out. I think 6 months after DA:O was released.

I'd rather have them take their time with it & release some LOTSB quality content. (LOTSB is IMHO Bioware's best DLC to date) More than that, I'd be happy to get an expansion.

Actually, Awakening is more an expansion than a DLC and it was released on March 2010. The first DLC for Origins were Warden's Keep and The Stone Prisoner and were released on 3rd November 2009, together with the release of Origins. The first DLC to be released after the game was Return to Ostagar on 13th January 2010, some two months later.

EDIT: According to what I've been reading on Dragon Age Wiki, patches for DAO were released on November and December 2009, then March and July 2010. It is conceivable that, if Bioware follows a similar pattern with DA2 (big if), then we could see another DLC before Patch 1.03 (PC).
DAO Release Timeline for Patches and DLC
- November 3, 2009: DAO is released; "Warden's Keep" and "The Stone Prisoner" available as DLC.

Keep in mind that Origins was basically finished much earlier in 2009. So they had at least an extra half year or so before the game came out to work on DLC and the expansion.
