Okay, but do we now for certain when work on DA2 was completed? It is also conceivable that DLC has already been created but are on hold because of the backlash generated by, say, reused environments. Perhaps they are tuning any and all future DLC before release?

All I know is that whenever they release DLC they better get it right, because they're only going get one shot at it. If the first isn't good they may as well just release a tool set and let modders have at it, because the number of people who will buy the next probably won't be worth it.

And at least it would keep more people playing it rather than uninstalling.

OdanUrr, the info you've compiled is great and informative. I doubt, though, that any DLC will come before Patch 1.03, as they have to fix a bug with the post-campaign save. I even think (not 100% sure) it was explicitly stated by Bioware staff in the PC Tech forum that they will have to have that fixed before releasing any DLC.

Edit: That was the post I was talking about.

I see that they haven't ruled out the possibility of releasing Patch 1.03 together with a DLC. Hopefully, this will be the case, but then we need to discuss the possibility of Bioware having Patch 1.03 ready and able sometime in May. Given development time for Patch 1.02 and how little it actually fixed, I'm not sure they'll make it.

As I recall, they announced Return to Ostagar only a couple weeks after DAO was out, but they had a hell of a time with delays and recalling it once in early January, eventually releasing it at the end of January for 360 and PC, but not until mid March on the PS3.

I'd guess we'll see a DLC schedule more like ME2, so I'd guess the first DLC will be out around 2 months after release or so, but likely not until the next patch. The key thing would be not waiting too long, as then people will have moved on to other games. Hell, I wouldn't doubt if BioWare tries to release some DLC around the time The Witcher 2 comes out in May.

they didn't even have time to finish DA2 without rushing it like mad, I'd be very surprised if they had time to get any work done on DLC at all beyond basic concepts and storyboarding

I think there will be some DLC in May yes. I'm pretty sure part of the reason why we haven't had any yet was because of the all the ME3 info coming out, they probably wouldn't want to be shooting both ways at the same time.

And yeah, after the failure that was Return to Ostagar, I'm somewhat glad they're taking their time.

I'd wager they announce a DLC a month in advance. So probably not May.

A month-long marketing campaign for a DLC? That would be quite the gambit, especially if it turns out to be of the same caliber as "The Exiled Prince." On the other hand, that'd give them an extra month to work on it.

A lot of people I know have already uninstalled/returned/re-sold their copy of DA 2. So those people will likely not bother with re-installing it simply for DLC. I'm not sure, but I believe that 2nd hand copies can't be re-registered under a new owner, which would make purchasing DLC quite difficult, and also not worth the bother. Although I'm not sure about that. I've no real clue how DLC works.

To give a bit of insight on this point, I don't know about the PC or PS3, but for the 360 versions, used copies can still be registered under the new owners. I know this because my copy of the game was bought used (couldn't believe Gamestop had used copies when they did, given DA2 was still selling on the 2nd week). It was 45 bucks, and with my Gamestop Edge card balance it was reduced to around 20. Not too big of a loss for me, though I'm still waiting for the game to get imports patched before I continue playing.

Anyway, I digress; the point was I was able to register my copy on here just fine. I asked first, too, and others said there wouldn't be problems.

I am not sure about the exact time frame but I remember waiting quite a while from the announcement to the release of DLCs.
