Just curious. I'm not sure where the spell Anders used originated from, but I must ask.

If Anders could set something like that huge explosion up at the Chantry, why haven't other mages set up their own explosions themselves where they want? It only took Anders himself, and a few ingrediants at best.

It wasn't magic. It was a bomb. The ingredients you fetched for him were large quantities of fertilizer and saltpeter. He just used magic for the triggering of it.

This.  Though that leaves us with the unanswered question: How did Anders get his hands on the most valuable and heavily guarded secret in the world?

Maybe it was a formula from Dworkin the Mad?

Unlikely.  While we don't know what besides lyrium went into Dworkin's recipe, I'd be surprised if he was that close to the "real" version of it without knowing it.  Also he makes a big point of the fact that just about all the lyrium that comes out of Orzammar is dust, which is too fine to work for explosives, and only sand works.  Though I suppose if he used corrupted lyrium it would explain all the red glowy crap.  Still, it doesn't make much sense that he needed help getting the other components but not the rare lyrium sand.

That could very well be. But that leads me to a question. If you don't help him gather the components for which he needs does he still blow up the chantry?

Yes.
He just does it on his own.

I kind of figured that there. Thanks for confirming that there for me I appreciate it.

For some reason, yes.  It looked like he used some hardcore force magic to sort of implode the building into a small space, and then the bomb, which for some reason was unaffected by the gravity spell, blew the condensed building apart.  Though oddly it explodes in sort of a... ring.  I'd estimate about 80% of the debris is hurled directly outward, not changing altitude, and thrown far.  I guess it makes sense if he was trying to avoid collateral damage, but I haven't the slightest idea how that happened.  Ditto for the red beams.  Meh.  Perhaps the whole thing is just for special effects shock value.  <insert "Varric is a liar!" theory here>

I'd agree, except Dworkin was very specific about the dust vs sand thing.  Dust, which is what's used for potions and the like, is useless for "a big boom" (in his words).  And Anders' boom was much bigger than any of Dworkin's.

First of all, Sandal is a mage and I bet his dad knew it from the beginning.
Also Anders went from a cat-loving happy chap to a vengeful terrorist.

Who would have thought Bioware would create the Dragon Age version of Osama Bin Laden O.o

I was kidding, i don't know what it was for sure. I just heard sandal go 'boom'.  :pinched:

It would explain anders wanting to live in hawkes estate. I actually thought thats what sandals prophecy meant. Don't know.

To be honest, it is really annoying how bioware won't tell people what sandal really is, if anything other than a retarded dwarf. I am hoping the next dragon age explains it all.

That's where the boom comes from.

Yay for Sandal Runes.

But seriously. Lyrium is blue for the most part. So by the ideology of colors, if they wanted to imply a lyrium explosion....MAKE IT BLUE. XD

Now that's what I call thinking outside the box.
But he may never go down into the Deep Roads with you, and Red Lyrium drives you bonkers. I doubt anyone took any of it back up with them except MAYBE Bartrand. Even then it'd be hard to obtain the Lyrium. XD

Or perhaps Anders somehow managed to create red Lyrium ... perhaps Flemeth appeared and gave him some tips ... and some red Lyrium. All shalt be answered in future DA games (hopefully)

If Anders is in the deep roads when you go and Justice goes boggle eyed at blue lyrium, its safe to say that he may have acquired red at some stage even hawke collects some. Anders said that red pure lyrium is evil, it could be partly why Justice was corrupted, maybe.

The blast was both magical and mundane. Gunpowder doesn't cause giant beams of red light.
