If Bioware make an expansion to fix all the plot holes and redo act 3 and it's FREE it may have a chance to be among the great RPG's in 2011, if not it will be a forgotten game in a few months.

Skyrim comes out on November 11. Is Dragon Age 2 going to stand up against the latest Elder Scrolls entry?

Skyrim tries to build on previous titles without losing its core audience in the process and be innovative in the open world RPG genre. Even if DA2 was an outstanding game, it wouldn't be able to compete, because the two titles differ too much in what they are trying to accomplish.

Edit: And besides that, in november DA2 will be yesterday's news.

*Shrugs*, Oblivion was very disappointing when it was released as well, we've yet to see much of Skyrim, can't see what people are getting so worked up over

Cause it fixes the problems of Oblivion? Instead of DA2 which fixed nothing from DA:O and made all the good into bad?

I'm afraid, no.

I've been in love with Bethesda's open world concept since I watched my neighbour play a game called "Morrowind" in late 2002, but Bethesda's always been about streamlining the core mechanics as much as possible then adding depth through new features or re-introducing old ones when it's clear that fans aren't happy with changes made in the previous games.

This is arguably a much better direction than what Bioware seems to be taking, but let's not put them on a pedestal.

The best thing about Oblivion was that it had a toolset.

The main problem with Oblivion was that the world was incredibly boring, how do we know if they'v fixed that or not?

You may not like the game, but it surely wasn't a commercial failure. Even today people are playing it. Despite the fact that Oblivion was released in 2006, you may be surprised by the daily Steam stats. Currently it is still in the top 100 list of most played games. I wonder if DA2 will be there in 5 years time. :P

Sorry guys. Dark Souls will rape Skyrim to Hell where Satan will have sex with it for eternity. It's a 2011 release too and it's the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. Want a hardcore RPG? Dark Souls is the place to be. I spit on TES. *Spit* I wouldn't even look at it. classes have been removed from Skyrim, so you people looking for a non-dumbed down RPG will probably be upset with Skyrim. I couldn't care about their empty open world.

And if we compare Skyrim to Origins, Skyrim will be absolutely destroyed. Character interaction in all TES games suck hard.

Wot? I never played an ES game myself, so I really don't know. Don't dig first person RPGs all that much anyway. Plus I'm not too fond of Bethesda, especially after they butchered Fallout.

And I don't have a PS 3 so I won't be seeing any Dark/Demon Souls action any time soon.

But, apples and oranges again.

Dark Souls is on 360 too this time. So yes. Finally. A dark hardcore RPG that will put The Witcher 2 to shame. Witcher 2 and Skyrim will cower before Dark Souls like little girls and then Dark Souls - with a big evil smile on his face - will walk into their bed room and close the door and then you'll just hear screaming.

Obviously you never played Demon's Souls. There's no exploding bodies but good luck with your console Skyrim with no classes. I guess they went the direction Bioware went and are trying to appeal console gamers too.

Not that console RPGs are bad but you kinda contradict yourself.

There aren't exploding bodies! There aren't!

But seriously. If you enjoy Skyrim - good on you and if you enjoy The Witcher - good on you. They just don't appeal to me and I hope Dark Souls delivers for me. As for DA2 - I think it's decent but I think we all agree it could have been better.

Demon's Souls is intense. Played it at a friend's place.

It's a "simple" action RPG, but casuals need not apply. No, seriously. If the game holds your hand, it's to make sure you won't run away when it tries to kill you.

Take that game online and it's a different ballgame.

They is braekig into yur gaem man!!

Fair is fair, and I sucked at that game for the short time I played it. But it's got a well designed combat system as well as a great risk/reward system.

Must be hard for you guys to find games you like when you think every other rpg beside origins/DA2 sucks.
Skyrim will be a very different RPG experience than DA2 no doubt about that, as will be the witcher 2.

I for one can enjoy those games too for very different aspects. Variation is the spice of life or so they say.
But I think I can now totally understand why people flame Bioware so hard for ruining their origins 2 expectation when origins supposedly was one of the few games left that they could enjoy.

Sorry but the Elder Scrolls games are goddamn monoliths when it comes to RPGs, every time one comes out everything is cast under it's shadow. Whether you like it or not it WILL be the most popular RPG for the next two years.

I have never particuly enjoyed Bethesdas work. Oblivion was meh and Fallout 3 was bad. Both were buggy and the enviroments looked the same. DA2 is no where as good as origins, but it is still a good game. In any case they are different types of RPGs.
