Hehe just re-installed Oblivion to remedy my disappointment with DA2 and even now Oblivion is ten times the game that DA2 is. With the endless mod support you can whip up the graphics to be far superior to DA2, and have hundreds and hundreds of hours of game time in a beautiful and varied game world. DA2 simply does not compare....at all.

I am sure that Skyrim will wipe the floor with DA2. Even Morrowind is superior to DA2 and that is nearly 10 years old!

I doubt they would make that mistake again. They haven't since, in other games: Fallout 3 (which had some massive problems with story, characters, and over-acting, but not variety), and New Vegas (which was awesome made into a sauce).

A teaser preview has already been demonstrated to game journalists - you can read their write-ups on the major websites:

The consesus among the critics is that Skyrim is going to be amazing!

I play Fallout 3 now. I don't play Oblivion, because I find it boring. But I did that already in 2006. On the other hand, I still play NWN2, BG/BG2, Fallout, Fallout2, and even Daggerfall from '95, and Darklands from '92.

I played New Vegas quite recently and found it very good. The faction thing was handled far better than in DA2. I was lucky not to come across any major bugs.

Oh now, that's not fair. TES are a juggernaut. People have been waiting for years for TES V, Skyrim, and it will be the fastest horse out of the stable for 2011.

I will not buy it right away, because of the inevitable multitude of bugs that seem to be 'normal' for Bethesda, but I will definitely buy it eventually.

Im hoping with the 5 year dev time they can get more in game testing done, the most bugs I saw in Obvlivion and FO were the odd crash or someone getting stuck in a rock or something lol

Actually I am still playing Oblivion and FONV in my spare time, I went through FO3 about 4 months ago for the 5th time, and I have friends that are still playing Oblivion as well...I guess that means you are wrong?

DA2 was made in roughly 18 months.

Skyrim was(I think) being made since Fallout 3 after the main DLC.

I think the winner is obvious.

"fanboy alert!"

I like plenty of non BIO RPGs including Ultimas, M&M, Wizardrys, PST, FO1, FO2, various FFs, etc., etc.

"The fact is that Bioware has never made a game that sold better than Oblivion. DA:O was close. But Oblivion is the the poorest selling Bethesda RPG the past decade with a bit more than three millions units sold. Morrowind sold four million, Fallout 3 close to five million, and Fallout: New Vegas five million."

Too bad I don't base what games I like on sales. if I did I would loathe ARC and Bl which are two terrific games.

ES series sucks. Plain, and simple. W1 sucked as well and W2 is more of the same suckiness.

Why compare to Skyrim? I thought the forum had pretty much established Bethesda games are not RPGs.

DA:2 won't have any worries from Skyrim, because it will be wiped out in the next month or so, the only thing DA:2 is going to be remembered for is the backlash, and no I'm not hating on the game, I enjoyed some aspects of it, the best way I can explain it, it was a quick fix to fill the RPG void, and for me, it did not quite make the grade.

Skyrim is Sandbox RPG with a focus on open world gameplay and exploration.

Dragon Age 2 is an Action RPG with a focus on narrative and characters.

I would call neither a pure or classical RPG, but that doesn't really matter much. What matters is that they are two different types of games with a focus on different elements.

There are elements in each game which can be compared directly with each other, but if you want to stack them against each other as a whole, I'm reminded of a phrase with the words apples and oranges.

The perfect answer to the OP.

As for sales, Skyrim will do infinitely better. Bethesda games usually do. Just a fact of life.

Very likely indeed.

I actually am playing Oblivion atm. I found some really nice mods on the Nexus, and I'm enjoying it very much.

I won't play FO3. I had some fun with it, on my nephew's computer, but it's not my cup of tea. It never was, I'm a FO 1 and 2 fan at heart.

FONV will have to wait as well. My system can't run it, not enough memory (or so "Can you run it" tells me) It's a laptop, and I'm not savy enough to install more ram myself, nor do I know anyone who would try to attempt it for me.

I'm hoping it's fixed by the time Skyrim is acceptable for me to purchase.

Ha! Nope.

Mad replay value, fun, quests, story and the most awesome voice acting ever = TES.

Two different games though. I doubt that Skyrim will handle companions (if we ever get any) in any personal way.

They started working on Skyrim once Oblivion was done, they had a group working on it since then, even through FO3, so its been around 5 years development time, that includes the new engine etc:>

When have critics previewing any game have said anything different, about any other game?

Care to go look for some previews for Dragon Age 2?

Not saying it will be a mediocre game, but just that reviews should be taken with a grain of salt, and read between the lines, looking for specific details. In other terms, search for features, changes, objective content, and disregard any qualitative comments, such as "it's great, great sucessor, momentous, standard breaker, best game of the decade..."

I enjoyed Oblivion. Good sandbox rpg, so great infact, to explore and do your thing, I tend to ignore main quests, like in Morrowing and Daggerfall.

But overall what I read is that yet again, the next sequel is getting even more simplified, in terms of it's core rpg aspects, such as skills.

Skyrim comes out on November 11. Is Dragon Age 2 going to stand up against the latest Elder Scrolls entry?

Considering it's only April and Skyrim is planned for November that I don't really see what the point is.

By the time November arrives most people will be playing other games and won't care either way :o

TW2 will wipe the floor with DA2, and so will Skyrim. DA2 will look like a low budget indie game in comparison, with the difference that indie games usually have passion and soul that went into making them.

You can turn the standard 4 gigabyte game into a 12 gb game with every aspect improved and more content than you can play in a life time... If you have the patience to make all those mods work together.

According to steam, I have twice as much hours spent playing Plants vs. zombies than Dragon Age II. I also had more fun in PVZ. Double you tea eff!

Cool,  think im going to download it and get some of the mods for it, I need something to play with in my spare time, is it tedious getting a bunch of them to run together?

I'm actually a new Oblivion player - played it after DA2 simply because I
think it's a must-play game for a DA fan... I think it's pretty good. I
give it 9/10 which in my book makes it worse than ME (9.5), ME2 (10)
and DAO (10), but much better than DA2 (7.5).

Doesn't compare to
most Bioware's games because the story and especially the characters
just aren't in the same league. I don't feel part of that world and feel
no connection to the characters. On the other side, you have a massive
world with hundreds of hours of fun gameplay, while the plots are still
good enough to keep the game moving. I think Skyrim could do with better
character development and a better main questline.

And
interestingly, people are saying TW2 and Skyrim are favourites for GOTY,
but Portal 2 already has 96/100 metacritic which is exactly what Mass
Effect 2 and Oblivion got, 1 more than Red Dead Redemption, etc... I say
Portal 2 is most likely GOTY just because it already has the score
where as the other 2 games could easily have failed like DA2 - for
example, Bethesda's most recent effort with FO3 only got 91/100 which is
quite a bit behind Portal 2...

I bought Oblivion after DA2 and Oblivion is vastly superior, although not as good as DAO.
