Yea so my companions are absolute idiots. but aside from that half the time their tactics dont trigger

Anders first line : Ally <25% hp : heal

So Fenris sits at 10 hp for about 6 seconds now and anders is happely auto attacking
Even when i set it to 50% it will only fire once it hits around 20% hp and not a second sooner

Im trying to play with just tactics on my companions but its impossible when half my guys dont look at their tactics, and the other half likes tunning into a mighty blow of fenris every chance they get while they are ranged characters that have no reason to be there. so how do people fix this nonsence

tactics are executed in 1->last and if a command gets successfully executed it starts again from 1. or so i belive so ensure the heal is one of first

It is in the first line but it gets executed at random. Sometimes anders is right on time and sometimes he will simply ignore all tactics.

Same goes for varric who has tactics to confuse 2+ guys but they can be right ontop of each other and he wont do it. Or attacking the guy attacking hawk, does that like once in a fight and then ignores it completely

One thing id love to see change is the staff attack animation to be cancel-able. It was in DA1. I`m missing plenty of staggers because my guy is busy ramming his staff into the ground and it takes like 3 seconds before the chain lightning kicks in

Uncertain if this will help, but set Tactics to Ranged or some other defensive mode.

use item: poultice

do you use hold position ? it often causes tactics to not work for me

I don't have problems with heals, but then again I have like 6 or 7 hp checks. Maybe the spell itself is in reuse?

hold + ranged will cause the tactics to lock the character into moving when it cant and ignore all other tactics:
solution: use aggresive behavior

Anyone using a tactic involving use item: health/lyrium poultice should click the advanced tactics link in my signature to understand why they are having issues.

The issue is mainly with anders healing, the potions tend to work... most the time :P

But i am not in hold position when it fails to execute the tactic. I`ll read up on your sig guide and see if anything comes up

Ive only really had issues with Anders not following my tactics & just doing whatever the hell he fancies so i just gave Merrill heal & she seems to work fine

I only have this problem when dog is out.. so I rewrote the tactics to

self: health <50% heal
Self: health <25% use poultice
Hawke: health <50% heal
Varric: Health < 50% heal

It seems like the dog does mess up some "heal ally" tactics since it counts as an ally but it not targetable.

using
ally: hp: <50%: deactivate Summon Mabarii
works like a charm as it ignores the cooldown timer and just dismisses the dog, heal fires 1 second later as normal.

I haven't had a problem with Anders but I've had a problem with Varric. I set him to 'Ranged' so why does he run to the enemy? Of course I don't give him a lot of constitution so sometimes I don't realize the stupid dwarf is getting himself killed until it's too late.

This is an old problem with ranged LoS in the DA engine where your missle users don't tend to the pie the corners so if they can't see something they move to a target instead of in a radius around  it to gain LOS.
