Just because you dislike paying a monthly fee, doesn't mean other players can't enjoy it, You get a lot back for that 15 bucks per month. I've lost count on the amount of content patches that were released. I met a lot of people that I still play online with every day.

I have played WoW for four years and loved every moment of it. I gladly paid 15 bucks a month for it, and I got quality in return. So suck it.

Yeah, a loss of 50% revenue due to piracy has no effect at all.

Link for statistic?

It has been argued that most people who pirate are the type of people who would not buy the game anyway even if you could ensure that there was no way to pirate it, either due to lack of money or simply because they wouldn't bother and would go off and do something else, and that anti-piracy methods just harm the honest consumer.  Most companies are just massaging the statistics in order to justify why they didn't make enough money or to increase control over the product (which limits the honest-paying customer, for example the three-install limit on Spore).

"The ESA's Anti-Piracy Program is designed to combat entertainment software piracy in the United States and certain countries around the world.  Global piracy is estimated to have cost the U.S. entertainment software industry over $3.0 billion in 2007, not including losses attributable to Internet piracy."

"Software vendor losses to piracy grew by 11% to $53 billion, according to a new joint report from the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and research firm IDC."

"The United States has the lowest PC software piracy rate in the world, 20%, but because it is the world's largest software market, it has the largest dollar losses from piracy, $9.1 billion. Japan, New Zealand and Luxembourg also have low software piracy rates, near 20%. "

Yeah, that's awesome, that you pull a bunch of statistics out of your ass.

But not every pirated copy means the loss of one sale. Not everybody who downloads a game would have bought it to begin with. So the whole argument is stillborn. You just cannot make a claim like that.

I was asked for statistics, I provided statistics.

To look at the facts and say "it's not that bad" is just ignoring the obvious.

OP Lotro is an awesome MMO, I really felt like they captured the Lord of the Rings feel for that game. I think I am MMORPG'ed out, I got into them about 9 years ago when Everquest was still the King and WoW was a wet dream. Warhammer Online was the last one I played and I probably won't pick another up until Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out. I'l give Bioware a shot, why not I gave Blizzard one at WoWs launch.

After having countless hours of my life sucked away by MMORPGs I can certainly say I will never play them the same again. It is pure casual enjoyment for me now instead of the hardcore raiding that I used to do. Anyways I think I digressed from what I was originally going to say.

The reason everyone pays a monthly fee for MMORPGs is because of the costs of running the servers+the salaries for support personnel+the salaries for teams working on new content for the game made available via free patches. That formula right there is supposedly what your monthly fee is paying for. Is it worth it is an entirely different arguement which I won't get into here but I will throw a few valid points, MMORPGs provide player to player interaction on a massive scale, and it's unique sharing a world with thousands of other players. MMORPGs also general have several times the content of standard rpgs, they have to really to keep you coming back for months.

Hell yes.

I have played WoW for almost 5 years.  I've managed a raiding guild for 3.5 years.

I had forgotten what it was like to have an actual story to a game.  And for you self role players out there, what y'all do is great and all...  but I like to play in a story that I don't have to make up myself!  :)

It's also nice to be able to push the limits of a game and beat it in your own fashion without having to worry about someone else's failings.

I just hope Dragon Age makes a ton of money.  I am phasing myself out of WoW.  It's dying anyway, IMO...  because they haven't introduced any new story to the game in 5 years.  All they have done is make every character from Warcraft 3 (which had a GREAT story) into a raid boss and had everyone get on the hamster wheel and farm them for epix.  But they are running out of WC3 characters.  They've killed them all off.  Arthas is all that's left, and then it's going to be retreads of old raids as they try to milk people as long as they can before it dies.

Anyway, I hope this revolution of single player RPG's is successful.  It's been a MASSIVE breath of fresh air!

You stated that 50% of sales are lost, I asked for a link to this.  You provide a list of how much certain games have been downloaded, this does not prove that a sale was lost, just that people downloaded them. How many of those downloads were by the same person?  How many of those downloads were people repeatedly downloading the same game from different sources because they detected viruses in first one they downloaded?  How many of these people would have brought the game had it not been available for download?  How many of them are people who bought the game but the disk they have has become damaged?  These 'statistics' prove nothing except that they are indeed downloaded alot.  Also, the second line of your report states that it is estimated to cost the industry 3 billion, where did they get this number from?

You will be amazed at how well statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want, hence the saying 98% of statistics are made up.
