But tiny text in a game with lots of it, bad idea. I hope they'll have stopped this practice with ME3, since they didn't with Dragon Age 2.
Tiny text in a game with a lot of text to read and no text size option is like mixing spinach and dog meat together and serving it as a prime roast, a terrible idea and one that smacks of a lack of actual thought.

Here I end up defending ME2 all the time. It keeps frustrating me. People hate ME2 so much that they invent all kind of crap they hate about it, which blurs the discussion about its actual shortcomings.
What was really unarguable a lot worse than Mass Effect was the story line. I hate that clumsy reset at the start, that deus ex machina rebirth. The whole "collector" thing was a meaningless side track mission from the original reaper thread, composing the majority of the game of recruitmend and loyality missions the do not have anything to do or at least remotely relate to the central threat a doubtful decision. Mass Effect 2, in all, introduces a new perspective to a lot of things and a lot more things that may get back to Shepard, but it did not bring the central storyline any further.
But apart from that I absolutely love Mass Effect 2. I like the superior tactical possibilities, levels that offer more flixible, I like how they removed the Mako, because I hated that random, clumsy bouncing on exploring planet surfaces, the armor customization, the dialogues, the amount of choices and that aggressive, straightforward design.

Although I liked the atmosphere of the first one, the combat is inferior and isn't as fun as the second. You can tell they tested ME2 more in this regard.
Renegade / Paragon interrupts are fun.
There are more companions to talk to in ME2, so it's more interesting.
The Mako was okay in the first game but the randomly generated, incredibly craggy terrain on uncharted planets got abit annoying.
Planet scanning is the only thing I can say I hated in ME2.
Edit: Forgot to add that the inventory system in ME1 was abit of a pain.

It doesn't feel like part of a series though, and I'm not happy with Bioware taking my LIs away (and only restoring one temporarily via DLC). Looks like they may continue this trend in ME3 *sigh*.

if it was a standalone game with different characters and no relation to mass effect, i wouldnt hate it as much.
but i bought it thinking i was buying a sequel and instead got something totally different
its probably a 6.5/10 as a standalone game

Council: We don't believe in the Reapers. We recovered next to nothing after the battle. Vigil isn't saying anything any more. We only have your visions as proof.
Shepard: You mean the visions that revealed the location of Ilos, where Saren and the Conduit was, and in doing so saved the Citadel?
Council: ... Pure coincidence.
Shepard: *facepalm*
I'm just hoping BioWare are too good to miss something that obvious and there's an explanation in the third game. Like... the Council was indoctrinated. Or something. Or they were lying because Shepard was with Cerberus. I don't know.

I just really dont like repetetive combat, dumbed down dialogue and rpg elements, michalbaysplosions, weak main story, juvenile fanservice, loss of exploration, absence of presidium, more dun dun soundtrack and planet scanning.

I agree with you in every way. This is exactly how I feel. Same situation with me. Demo first, then Mass Effect, and then I bought Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect 2's story was the only downside, but at least I sort of felt like I knew where I was going in the story. There was something Shepard had to do so it didn't feel like a waste of time while I was playing. We learned a couple of new things about the Reapers, and got an IFF. Maybe Mass Effect 2 will be more important than we know.Schattenkeil wrote...
I don't... I got in touch with Mass Effect only after Mass Effect 2 was already out and the first thing I got to play was the Mass Effect 2 demo and I loved it. I bought Mass Effect only after that.

I personally love it. Mass Effect was slightly bumpy because of all the changes, but it was a great sequel.

Okay. maybe it's not so hard to say
But yeah, it's stuff like that which really took me out of the game. Individuial stories were fine, even good. But these stories simply didn't come together well at all. The main story was so weak that by the time the game finally ends I'm left not with a feeling of accomplishment, but a feeling of 'What just happened?"
As a fan of rpgs more than action games, this lack of a central story pretty much kills my overall enjoyment of the game. Particularly since this is supposed to be the middle volume of an epic three part "Shepard vs Reapers" story. Others may feel differently, but this is my opinion.
