It's not that ME 2 is a bad game, they made some pretty worthwhile changes. For one thing, I enjoyed ME 2's combat over ME 1, but ME 1 overall felt like a tighter coherent vision. It was ambitious and ME 2 lost some of that ambition. The pacing, story, atmosphere, world designs, mission design in ME 1 to me are far superior.

The 'main' story consisted of forced shoot-em-up levels on Freedom's Progress, Horizon, Derelict Reaper etc. I hated them.

worst sequel ive ever played. big gaming dissapointment ever.

if it was a standalone game with different characters and no relation to mass effect, i wouldnt hate it as much.

but i bought it thinking i was buying a sequel and instead got something totally different

its probably a 6.5/10 as a standalone game

Aside from the main story, the thing I disliked most about ME2 is the lack of atmosphere, of being in space, that ME1 was full of. There is a reason I played through ME1 completely well over ten times.; the universe was beyond fascinating. ME2 simply lacked this magic.

Always amazes the reasons people create threads. We should make that "New Topic" button harder to find

As a stand alone it's a good game, but as a sequel to ME1 it's ****** poor.

Far too much has been butchered into generic simplicity rather than tweaked and fixed.

I miss the "alive" atmosphere of ME1. But I loved ME2 just as well, I suppose.

Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 are ones of my favourite games. I'm not crazed fanboy or something, but I enjoy this series more than others.

ME2 just feels less like a living world to me and more like a bunch of interdependent levels in a game. ME1 one just flowed better and felt more alive, like you were taking part in this world an not just playing a game.

Haters are everywhere and there is nothing we can do about it. As for me, I like both Mass Effects and I put my trust in BioWare, because they NEVER delivered Junk.

Of course there are some things I missed in ME 2. Things like:

-Banter = Dragon Age: Origins has the best banter ever :)
-Entertainment like going to the club with the love interest, or drinking with Jacob and Zaeed
-Some kind of a galactic Racing Championship

the small things I would say. But overall I give ME 2 9,8 / 10 points. And I don't give a damn about haters, trolls, flamers, lamers etc. Yes, they exist, but not for me. For me, these creatures are not relevant and they deserve no attention at all. Period

Best game ever (till ME3). If someone dislikes ME2, it's their loss.

What everyone is saying about it not being a very good sequel is stupid. With a sequel to a popular game it is hard to pelase everyone, if you don't change much then you get called lazy or accused of taking the safe option. If you try to advance the game in any significant way you will get butchered by the hardcore fans. ME2 is an excellent game, not the best sequel to the ME1 story but still fits into the universe and story arc ok.

For a really bad sequel look at DA2.

I love every aspect of the game except planet scanning. It was okay but got a little boring after a while.

From a pure gameplay perspective I thought it was enjoyable enough. I couldn't care less about the addition of thermal clips (ammo mechanic doesn't bother me, good change in my opinion) though I do wish the power and upgrade systems were more complex and offered more variety in character building.

My issues with the game come from the writing, and those are more difficult to address in a sequel since they necessarily shape how the successive titles in a series will play out--assuming your goal is continuity.

I loved absolutely everything about, except the annoying load times and the planet scanning.

I certainly don't, it improved over ME1 in every single aspect. ME2 is, to me, the ultimate shooter/RPG hybrid game.

I just hope they won't pander to the ''fans'' too much with the third part and force clunky RPG elements back into the game.

I felt the complete opposite. ME1 was much more confined than ME2, with a lot less areas to explore, and the ''outside world'' basically consisted of empty places with recycled dungeons. The citadel was a dead place, with barely any interaction with the environment.

It was also much more linear, with your 4 basic mission planets and then the final showdown. At least ME2 gives you a wild variety of options - sidequests that are actually worth doing, recruitment missions, loyalty missions, main story missions, visits to three ''hubs'' with stores as opposed to just the one - and a lot of things are completely optional.

Only thing that bothered me was no toggle helmet, and sometimes your followers felt detached from the rest of the world

Main story could have used a bit more attention. It could have been a logical first step in bringing the war to them, but the story lacks explanation on why it is important. This could have simply been fixed, but they over looked it. Now it seems a bit disconnected from the rest of the story, but if you reason a little it all could make sense.
But after starting ME1 up again, i can't imagine that people prefer the combat from ME1 over ME2.

I really liked it, but it wasn't OMG EPIC GOTY for me.
The story/dialogue too shallow/forced, levels too tight, too little character development.

ME3 seems to hit the right notes so far for me though.

I think ME2 was about as "EPIC GOTY" as it gets for me.

About the inventory issues. I am replaying ME1 at the moment. If I had to choose between a global inventory as in ME2 or the inventory in ME1, I'd definitely choose ME2.

Particularly now at a high level I just wish there had been a freaking "Convert ALL to omnigel" button. I have the best items in the game and the maximum amount of cash, why would I pick up 10 inferior assault rifles and "I'm too poor to get a proper amp X"?

Ideally I would want a more elaborate inventory system than the one in ME2 and one that is much less insane than the one in ME1.

Honestly, ME1's inventory would have been fine if the developers had the brains enough to allow items to stack, given each category tabs to auto sort by name, quantity, etc. It's not hard to design an inventory that works, I don't know what Bioware's ****ing problem is.
