Honestly, ME1's inventory would have been fine if the developers had the brains enough to allow items to stack, given each category tabs to auto sort by name, quantity, etc. It's not hard to design an inventory that works, I don't know what Bioware's ****ing problem is.

Or allow people the option to not pick up items they don't want.

Exactly...

A few tweaks and the loot/inventory system would have been perfectly fine.

Instead, because they couldn't be arsed they remove it alltogether.

It'd take a bit more than minor tweaks to fix it. Some items were clearly superior. Once you have those, the inventory system basically becomes useless. It's basically 95% crap items, and the remaining 5% of items that are actually good, you very likely already have because they're so easy to get.

I liked the idea of weapon and armor modding and was sad to see that removed in ME2. But the general inventory system? Glad they completely changed that. The system in ME2 is not perfect, but it's better.

At this point I am so tired of the old system I'd rather be searching monkey colonies than reduce another list of pointless items to omnigel. And I REALLY did not like the monkey colony mission :)

Its not that i hate the game.
I just really dont like repetetive combat, dumbed down dialogue and rpg elements, michalbaysplosions, weak main story, juvenile fanservice, loss of exploration, absence of presidium, more dun dun soundtrack and planet scanning.

Bingo.

EA response? Silly Rabbit ME2 is for Kids!

I'm playing ME1 again, I sell pretty much everything I get.

On the other hand, I miss having my whole squad in that red armor whose name I forget.

Zulu_DFA posted yet in this thread?

Oh, okay. Well, that answers your question, OP.

BTW, while I dislike certain aspects of both ME1 and 2, they're still two of my favorite games. ME2 a little more so because it's more fun to play for me and I like the characters better.

I take issue with the story resurrecting Shep from ashes, to have him work with a pro-human race hate group that tends to maim, torture and kill humans.

Gameplay is great, but the story is the work of noobs.

The story is the work of  pretty much the same people that did ME1 (not to mention other Bioware games).

Love it. There's pretty much nothing I would change.

Actually Shepard being staggered by certain attacks is pretty annoying. I'd change that.

I didn't like:
- how they changed the Vanguard into a one-trick-pony that does the same thing throughout the whole game.
- adding thermal clips, they were pointless (since they were universal, and so easy to get, it had very little effect on the game).
- removing the Mako (or leaving the Hammerhead without kinetic barriers).
- removing Quasar
- balancing all automatic assault rifles barring the Revenant to be pea-shooters

Other than that, I consider it a classic. Virtually everything else was done brilliantly and evoked much of the sense of adventure the first game did. Some of the quests - like Jacob's Loyalty quest or the Reaper IFF quest - go down in my personal hall of fame of great moments of gaming.

Looking forward to ME3.

the vanguard isnt a one trick pony. i play my vanguard differently than most people and its still really effective. my vanguard uses SMG / AR as primary weapon. pull as my primary ability. i still charge and stuff, but i dont spam charge with the shotgun, its more of a reposition myself to get better shots on guys. its super effective. i dunno where people got the idea that vanguards can only be played by exclusively using hte shotgun and spamming charge from but thats not how i play mine.

i like the mako, but i hated random planets with the mako. mostly because they were all full of super jagged mountains that were a major pain to navigate with. the more story based vehicle parts like virmire, noveria, ect. with the mako was great though.

Let me clarify my statement - the vanguard is a one-trick-pony if one wants to play it optimally. Sure, you can play it in other ways but you're gimping yourself if you're doing anything other than repeatedly charging and shotgunning in the face. There's been a ton of analysis done on this, zero - just have a look over at the strategy forum. Vanguards are not very good biotics nor are they particularly good combatants outside of using Charge.

I wouldn't outright say I dislike or hate it, but I do hate a lot of aspects of it and how it changed the Mass Effect series.

I thought it was better than Mass Effect 1, not by much, but better. It did lack that vast "I'm in Space" kinda feel that ME 1 had to it, while ME 2 felt more linear. 9/10, whereas ME 1 gets an 8.5/10.

:D

Loved the direction they took ME2, giving it a more action focus. However I did miss some of the RPG elements that got simplified, like inventory (a mix of me1/2 inventory would be nice for me3). plus the mining... *shudder*

ME2's a great game, no doubt about it. And certainly a grade above most of the games coming out.

That said though ME2 has just as many problems as ME1 did more or less. It's very difficult for me to conclude that ME2 is in fact any better then ME1. Essentially to me for everything they improved upon, they also took some sort of step backwards often making other things worse. It's a mixed bag reaction for me.

It's just kind of grating cause had they done things a little differently it likely could have become a truly landmark game, something that people will still remember and play in 10 years. ME2's attempt to transition into a shooter also just leaves a lot to be desired.

I generally like ME2. The streamlining was done sensibly and being a TPS it actually works out well. Not happy about some stuff like the removal of crouch and customizable companion armor but the improvements outweigh the bad. Compare this to what they attempted to with DA2 which totally ruined that game, but you won't catch Mike Laidlaw ever admitting it.

Aside from the combat I think ME2 was a step backward in most cases.

ME1's inventory was pretty bad too I guess. You just got to the point where you turned everything into omni-gel. So as usual, Bioware's way to "improve" it was simply by just removing it completely.

No, they split it up into three different interfaces, restricted access to them, and pared down the number of items to the point where the need to get rid of stuff no longer existed.  It's very minimalist and not the traditional, monolithic "bag of holding", but it's not just non-existent.

ME2 really did overcompensate for ME1's failings and weaker points and took things too far, while also approaching things in a far more simplistic, immature and dare I even say "meatheaded" way in a lot of cases. Too much mainstreaming and "rule of cool" and not enough mature, intelligent stuff and classic sci-fi. ME2 wasn't what I'd call "bad" as such, but it introduced a few elements I'd call "bad" and would preferred not to have seen in the Mass Effect trilogy. I got into ME1 largely because it avoided the kind of trite, immature stuff that ME2 began to introduce basically.

I liked ME1 and ME2, but I do believe that in general, the combat was upped, while the whole "I'm in f*cking SPACE!" vibe was just... gone. THAT was what I truly missed. Though I did love getting to know the new characters.

Also, speacking of the space vibe, did anyone ever do that mission on Luna in ME1? When I first did it, the only thing I could think of was this:

"Holy CRAP, I'm on the effing MOON!!!!"
