Ah, right! She makes a comment about how strange it is for her child to own her childhood home, or somesuch. I don't know how I forgot that. :?

I guess the drama around the Birthright quest just sticks out in my mind more.

Hehe.  Do what I do, blame memory problems on thousands of braincells self-destructing rather than try to process the logic behind Orsino.

Side with the templars. Orsino makes sense. Profit. :police:

But... but...

... don't you know that the best way to ensure that your mages are kept safe and sound is to play around with blood magic, tick off your templar jailors at every opportunity, hide nutjob serial killers who prey on your own people and transform yourself into a giant flesh monster that attacks your own allies-- *Brain dead*

They could have written Leandra better, she says all but a few sentences the whole game. I didn't like how she was the mourning mother and perked up when she got into the estate. No depth. Im grieving, im better, time to go on a date and dies. Horribly.

Maybe the writers didn't like her.

Leandra had 4 years to mourn the first sibling, and 3 if the second died... who stays depressed that long over a death in the family?

While I'm sure you'll be jumped on for being cold, as a mother who has lost a child, I actually do agree with you.  3 years actually was the time it took me not to burst into tears at random times (less and less frequently as time went on), but I certainly was enjoying life and not mired in pain that entire time.

While there's nothing more painful than losing a child, most parents do have healing that's going on.  You may catch them at a bad time, or occasionally you may want to reminisce, but I think Leandra getting on with life was a good thing, and very real.

I'm not sure what to say, but im sorry.  <3

My intention is never to offend anyone i have not lost a child, but have experienced sudden loss, i do understand pain and the motions you go through. I make light of games always no matter what life is about it, the thing is me 'complaining' about Leandra is only because i wanted more of a story. Not a bad thing. I could probably say that about every character in the game, because i like them not because i want less. I would not have wanted leandra removed but more of her story. More everyone! =]

Actually it would have been interesting if only those characters who gave Hawke the blood mage specialization would be able to save her and then only if they sacrifice someone. Leandra would leave Hawke in disgust over their decision to both learn and use blood magic. --- still that's just Monday morning quarterbacking on my part. I liked the quest

I wish I knew why the writers included this quest/event. I have my own opinion, but I don't know if it pans out.

It seems at the end of the game you have to make a mage/templar choice, and Leandra's death, with the over-the-top-zombie-dying-in-your-arms scene, is meant to foster hatred against mages and make an annulment decision seem plausible. Meredith bringing up Leandra's death in Act 3 supports this.

My problem if this is that if Hawke is a rogue/warrior, then he cant really foster generalized resentment against all mages because Bethany is a generally good and supportive sister (as opposed to Carver's constant bickering). If Hawke is a mage then its difficult for him/her to generalize about mages because Hawke never indulged in that kind of depravity - and if he did he wouldn't be disgusted by it.

Overall my biggest gripe with the quest was the last scene. Talking to your dying mother while her head is stitched on to someone else's body is beyond disturbing. Thank god for the <Esc> key.

How can anyone question the narrative genius behind shambling mum zombie? Honestly, were there an option to skip the quest I would take it not to save Leandra, but rather to avoid the most toe curling quest in the game. When I was first subjected to it, the subsequent series of narrative facepalms left bruising.

I am at that quest in my third playthrough and am running out of excuses not to do it.

I think one of the reasons DAO felt so much more satisfying than this game was that it had a goal, and (most of) the things you did were in service to that goal. If I wanted to be distracted by people asking for favors/help so often that I can't finish anything, I'd just go to work.

I guess given the chance to skip it many would. It did have an effect being every time i saw a blood mage invisble fireballs shot from my eyes and their head exploded.

I like that.  And there'd finally be a use for Sebastian!  *endorses*

The hilarious thing is that seemingly every major quest can be flag-editted in the debugging script except that one.  I can't find it anywhere.  :pinched:

You mean side with the templars and stay in Kirkwall? Posted Image

No thanks, I'll leave the Hellmouth for the next poor sucker of the Dragon Age series.

This quest reminded me a lot of Anakin Skywalker and how it ended for him and his mom. Desite how strong and powerful you become you still can not save everyone especially when it hits close to home. With this comparison I was really disappointed I didn't get the kill them all option at the start of year 7. That is what the middle option should have been instead of trying to stay out of it. Kirkwall streets would have been a river of blood, templar and mage blood.

Yeah, it's another rail roaded plot point. Unless many other Western RPG's, in DA2 your choices are meaningless.

Sad, really, especially given that this is the same company that makes Mass Effect!

To be fair, I suppose, they were trying something different with the narrative but it just didn't work.
