It's totally optional and only learned about it on my 3rd playthrough.
Go up Sundermount during Act II to the shirne where you did the ritual for Flemeth's amulet. There is no quest related reason to go up there and there isnt any special loot (I think one of your companion's armor upgrade is all the way at the peak where there is a mature dragon's lair), so I can see how it is missed, but this is potentially more difficult than the Nexus Golem fight.
All told there is 1 mage, 2 shadow assassins, an arcane horror and a bunch of spread out skeleton archers and those lightning fast corpses. These spawn faster than the Nexus Golem fight so if you miss an opportunity to kill the first shadow assassin (e.g. it does it's flip kick which cancels out your assassination attack), you'll soon have two of them with about 5 skeleton archers stun-locking your ranged characters.
Anyway, I'm not saying it is ridculously hard (in fact if you kill that first assassin quick it makes it much easier), just that I've had to reload a number of times to it and was just wondering other people's experiences.
That hard fight I dont see videos for or posts about

Yea I know the fight you're talking about.
Its been discussed on here before.
The two Shadow Assassins and crazed loner are a pain.
The best strategy is to take out the crazed loner first without walking to him, let him come to you. Because if you move forward to a certain point, the other corpses and shadow assassins spawn.

Very first time I tried this fight I got spanked. It Took many reloads to defeat. I had aveline, myself as a rogue, anders and isabella.
2nd playthrough I used an all ranged party and pretty much stomped them all into the ground.

I can see that since on your first playthorough w/ melee the skeletons and assassin spawned before the crazy mage was killed. It's definitely a fight that is hard the first time you encoutner it before you learn the spawning conditions. I think the developers did a good job with this battle.

If the fight is only hard when you dont know the conditions of spawning its actually not a good fight imo. As all it takes to beat it would be killing stuff in certain order and nothing more :/ oh well

Any AI has its (all-too-obvious) limitations. You cannot expect it to be a PvP emulator

Oh i know. Just saying a fight could be harder with a better laid out enemy composition or usage of skills

First time on Normal felt overwhelming, as I wasn't yet used to the spawning waves that characterize this game. I got my footing and replayed the game on Hard: clean sweep at this point.
I charged the Crazy Loner, as with any spell caster. Patiently picked off the archers while tolerating the shadow assassins (and yes, two SAs eventually joined the fight). I think enemies with lots of hit points and stealth are dangerous, esp. if they succeed in scaring you from killing the deadly (but easier) targets first.

This statement can be applied to most of the difficult fights in the game. It is also nothing new in gaming as knowledge of how spawns play out is a key factor in what makes a playthrough much easier the second+ time around.
That said, I do agree with your general statement. This fight in particular is much, much easier if you trigger the spawns seperately vs rushing in.
Still, this is one of the fights that I look forward to as it is possible, on nightmare, to rush in, triggering the second spawn before killing off the initial mage and stay in the zone. Not all parties have the burst damage output nor control capabilities to pull this off but it is fun when you can.
