i mean they apparently have a fragile hive mind that can be tampered with. they can reproduce at an alarming rate. they brought the galaxy to its knees once already. they can mind control people and corpses. according to all the codexes and history bits in the game all that triggered the rachni war was someone wandering into rachni occupied space and them freaking out.
so i mean we COULD believe this single queen, or she could just be lying. i dont trust it at all. plus its a massive threat.
also i dont get why everyone yelled at me for commiting genocide when all i did was kill one queen and a bunch of mindless drones.
some might say ill have one less ally to fight the reapers with in ME3, me, i think i'll have one less enemy to fight in ME3.

I have one Shep that I play in a "real life" mind frame and killing her in that game seemed more honest to what I would really do than letting her live. I just could not see risking the future on an already extinct species. Given what my Shep has heard about the rachni, it would be like deciding on the fate of a Tyrannosaurus rex. The risks were too high no matter what she "promised".

yeah, thats how i felt about it. let loose a very dangerous creature who can quickly create an army that can overwhelm entire systems, or kill it and keep things as they are.PMC65 wrote...
If you have Wrex with you he is not impressed if you let her live.

I'd have agreed with this before, but talking to the queen totally changed my perspective.
The Rachni Queen proved its not a beast like the T-Rex, but that it's intelligent. Dinosaurs don't communicate through dead people or create their own ships. The very reason the rachni we encountered in the facility were hostile was our own fault, we seperated it from its mother, and they developed incorrectly. The scientist you meet to initiate that neutron purge said it himself, they are a great species, our interference was what messed them up. We don't know what caused them to become a galactic threat that had to be wiped out a few years ago, but that's not a crime for which this queen was responsible.
Ultimately, I felt this species deserved to be given a chance to create anew, especially when it has given its word to do so peacefully. Can it be trusted? Maybe, maybe not. But you can't just go about killing anything/anyone that might be a threat, or you can justify killing everybody. Who am I to deny it life/freedom because I perceive it a "risk"?

Ideally the best choice would have been to wipe out the other Rachni first and keep her stored away until it can be determined if she really will be peaceful.

If you kill the rachni you make Shepard a party to genocide, because you're wiping out the only free rachni the krogan missed.
EDIT: It's also cold blooded murder for something the queen didn't do. She didn't start any war, and is begging for her life.

Yeah, no way that can go wrong.
And if a Queen gets indoctrinated then all her underlings do too.

If they stay loyal, great, I'll have another ally. If not, I'll have Mess Sergeant Gardner bread them in coconut batter and deep fry them. It's a win-win.

If I am wrong, i just found who's front line shock troopers. They all die, but the reapers are weakened. Everyone is happy.... except the bugs and the ships that look like bugs.

Bioware won't make a game with one decision leading to extra battles. It will be equal, but different.
