 I see there's a lot of love for Tali on this forum and I just don't understand it. I didn't find her a particularly compelling character. Didn't like they brought her back for ME2. Would have prefered Liara/Wrex. Tali always kinda annoyed me tbh, found her a bit whiny.

Personal tastes. Some people like me liked her character. Others did not. Nothing wrong with that.

and there's usually a reason for that, I'm just curious.

Honestly, I think it's because a lot more people are susceptable to "D'AAAWWWW" than they like to admit. She's pretty adorable.

In short, she was brought back for ME2 ONLY because she was so adored in ME1 so Bioware felt like they had to bring her back or else the Bioware Edmonton HQ would have been burned down.

As to why people like her, well, it depends on the individual.

Some liked her in ME1 because of her mysterious nature and incredible ass-to-waist ratio.

Some liked her more simply because she couldn't be romanced in ME1. You know, the whole "you want what you can't have" type of attitude.

Some liked her because she was very shy, reserved, naive and a bit geeky and really appealed to male gamers who was also shy, reserved, socially awkward, and generally geeky in real life. Not to mention that she came across as VERY submissive.

So it all depends.

Personally, like you, I found her VERY annoying in ME and a large part has to do with her irritating voice. She came across as that annoying little sister who is always wanting attention from you, which is another reason why I couldn't take her seriously as a romance in ME2 because she came across like a 14-year old little girl who has a secret crush on the star HS Quarterback.

You can ask the same question and just rotate the name. The simple answer: People perceive characters differently.

I did not find Tali to be whiny at all, in fact she was my favorite character in ME1. In ME1, she was a character who seemed down to "earth" and liked to share with Shepard her knowledge about her people. I enjoyed going down to engineering to talk to her, and after a while I wondered why I could not romance her. I found Liara to be too boring, so much so that Ashley became the default romance if I was to have one. But even Ashley did not have that upbeat personality that Tali had. Kind of made the romance in ME2 much more enjoyable when it is revealed she kind of felt the same way.

Me, personally? I am pretty indifferent to just about every male squad mate on the team, with the exception of Wrex and Dr. Solus. They're pretty cool. The thought of romancing Garrus makes me cringe, but I do understand why people like him so much. I just don't share the same feelings.

i completely agree I do not understand it i have done polls and that about this and she wins by such a majority its untrue.

Well I think the question shouldn't be why you like Tali because like someone just said, that can be asked for every character.

What should be asked is why are the Tali fans so......crazy over Tali. There are Liara fans, Ashley fans, Kaiden fans etc....but none of them have that obsessive attitutue that a lot of the Tali fans have. 

There is liking a character and then there is being obessed with a character. Two different things. Tali fans (in general) tend to show a more obsessive nature with Tali than just a simple "Oh yeah, I like her character".
