Hi all,

I was having the crash to desktop issue every few minutes a few others have posted here, but now my problem is worse. I'm getting a total PC crash and reboot while trying to play DA II. I've checked in WhoCrashed but I never get a report ever after enabling crash dumps.

I'm running Win 7 Pro (32bit), nVidia GTX 260 with the most current WHQL drivers, AMD Athlon Dual Core 4600 + 2.4 Ghz processor, and 4 GB RAM. 1.5 TB HDD (SATA). Dropped down to DX 9, no high textures, Medium graphics (down from High), no mods, and nothing else running in the background when I'm playing.

I'm at a loss here. This only happens with DA II, not Oblivion, Sims 3 or Ufo Defence or Steam games.

:(

Gorath your post is somewhat vague; was that your way of saying that the PSU is failing?

Can still be a hardware problem that only occurs with more demanding games. Check your CPU and PSU temps while playing; it would be faster than a stress test. Sounds like overheating to me.

Control Panel>System and Maintenance>System

Click Advanced system settings select advanced tab. click start up and recovery settings Uncheck automatic Restart.

Also, try running the game with Antivirus disabled

My psu is fine. I built this rig and the power supply is a 1000W, so it's fine. Thanks for the tip Lacan!

Waltzingbear, this does not happen with other games, only DA II post 1.02 patch. Previously I could play for hours at a time before the latest patch.

Im actually having a similar problem. I've played through the game, and was about halfway through a second time, everything pretty much working perfectly, when I installed the 1.02 patch. Now when I play just a few minutes or so, my computer freezes up completely and I have to reboot. My computer works fine when Im not playing the game, and the game worked fine before the newest patch, so while it seems strange that a patch would actually cause a problem like that, it does seem like that's what did it. Hopefully the next patch will be better :) .

You need your own thread. This one is about another symptom, not about "freezing".
