Can someone please tell me what the different quest locator icons on the map mean? There are large and small and black and white quest arrows, but I do not know what the difference means. Thanks.

Kinda seems like black icons mean you need to go there at night, white ones during the day, and small ones meed you need to meet a prerequisite first (like a different party member, etc). Thoughts?

Are you referring to the three world map sections or to the maps for specific areas (caves on the Wounded Coast, interiors of buildings, etc)? If I recall correctly, on the former, you should see the sort of double-arrow icon above a location when you have an active quest. On the latter, the white single arrows will appear to guide you toward a quest area. As your map expands, you should see the gold arrow for the actual position point of the quest trigger. (This is on the PC. I'm not sure if it's any different on XBox or PS3.)

I am referring to the world map sections. The double-arrow icon has two sizes and two colors, black and gold (I said white earlier). I am trying to determine what the difference signifies, if anything.

This shows the two sizes, I currently do not have any of the gold arrows but they are the inverse of these. I am on a PC as well.

Gold should only appear on the icons in the lower right - Kirkwall - Day, Kirkwall - Night, and (can't recall the exact name) Surrounding areas. You'll see the gold arrow pointing down to one of those icons when you have an active quest in that section/time frame. The black arrows should appear within those sections, above the specific location symbols. So small black arrows above the Hightown symbol means you need to return there for some quest or plot point.
I hope that helps.
