Not that it's necessarily the
hardest fight but I always get rage-faced when I'm doing the Secret
Rendezvous quest in Docks Night in Act 1. For whatever reason the way I
build my characters I dont have trouble with the Brekker fight but this
one always gives me issues this early (even though its essentially the
same type of fight)

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who got severely owned by this fight several times over. I think I also routinely aggro some random encounter at the same time, so I have to deal with two fronts at the same time. :P

Agreed. I'm trying to push an initiative of locking down excessive kiting in boss fights going forward. Basically I want all our important boss fights (especially those side ones) to require you to fully plan your party ahead of time and have 0 chance of cheesing it out by kiting adds 4 rooms away.

As long as you do this in a way that makes sense.  Don't just randomly lock doors to prevent a tactical retreat (ME2 did this all the time) or something world-breaking like that.  Especially if your attempts to make the Nightmare battles truly nightmarish lead to arbitrary restrictions at lower difficulty levels.

I like cheesy tactics if those tactics make sense in the setting.  The all ranged attack on the Broodmother in DAO worked really well, I thought, because it made sense that she would be immobile and tactically limited.

I agree in principle for most other classes, but as a spirit healer this fight was a cakewalk.I even took damage on purpose and still was never in any danger.

Oh SHIIII-

I find Hybris to be a walk in the park in comparison.

Yeah. They have like 8,000,000 HP a piece. Hybris doesn't have as much HP as one of these guys' left leg, and the Mass Pulls are really nasty. Definitely a top contender.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Bartrand. IMO it's definitely the hardest fight to not have any squadmate knocked out.

Oh yeah, if I'm considering the "trying to keep everyone alive" factor, Bartrand was very hard due to how easy it was for him to wipe out the squishy party members.

That's why I mentioned earlier that any fights that involved rogue assassins were a pain in the rear for me, since I was trying to keep everyone alive and the backstabs weren't helping.

Bartrand is actually easy.
He is only one assassin and most assassins stop going into stealth if there isnt any other enemy alive. So this fight is really easy by killing the crazed guards fast(who are very vulnerable to fire damage)

By the way,all revenants should that be that hard.

I didn't have any problems with Bartrand..however it was a long fight (luckily no one was wiped out from my party) with Knight Commander Meredith. I would have to say that fight was the toughest of them all.

Ancient Rock Wraith. Boss does huge amounts of damage, adds do a lot of (ranged) damage, requires micromanagement of all party members and takes forever.

I found the High Dragon was the hardest. I didn't have much problems with the other bosses. I had to resurect my party at least once each with him though.

Xebenbeck, yes. Even kiting a few rooms back I still managed to get smashed a few times...

I think my vote has to go to Xebenkeck. I don't think i've beaten that fight yet without leaving the room. Last time I stayed in and aaaalmost made it, but things came down to one rage demon vs Varric and I had to kite him down the hall. Meh.

Runner up would probably be the twin Revenants.
Hybris and the High Dragon are complete cakewalks with a handful of resist runes.

Also, the ONLY fight I have ever turned the difficulty down for was the ARW. I have no idea what I was thinking heading into the deep roads with two primal mages. I must have taken a blow to the head to forget that the act boss was a giant rock and lightning monster...

Ancient rock wraith with no healer, no potions and failed character build + no tank.

Had to reload deep roads and spec aveline properly. After that she was just invincible and I could have done the battle without anders.

But yeah. It was literally impossible at the time (nightmare) ranged unavoidable attacks and would take massive damage.

Arishok for me I suppose, just did the duel for the first time on my rogue.
Not particularly 'hard' I suppose once you get the hang of it, but he does hit like a freaking truck, spent alot of time kiting him round. Took a while, heh.

The Ser Varnell fight.

SO MANY ARCHERS.
Ugh I had to go on an archer hunt to avoid getting turned into a pin cushion.

Hardest fight for me, so far, was Xebenkeck (in the room). I had a spot of trouble with the ARW but that was because I didn't have a tank; Deep Roads with two damage spec mages and two rogues is tricky. That said I only wiped once before I figured out the fights mechanics.

Arishok was easy, just repetitive; with a combination of freezing him, paralyzing prison and petrify he only got two hits in in the entire fight. High dragon was boring and repetitive, I mean the same mechanics repeated over and over are just meh. Especially when the add fights are over in no time and then the dragon sits up on the hill bit for ages. Out of all the dragon fights I think the hardest was the first one or the one in the deep roads.

Ancient Rock Wraith. I was playing on Nightmare until I met this guy, had to lower the difficulty to Hard to get past him, a memorable fight for sure ;)

I usually play on normal, but playing through on hard this time I'm currently stuck up against the battle with the mage, shades, and pride demon on the docks on our way to the gallows at the end of act 3. The mage's blue "suck all your health" vortex thing and all the shades just overwhelm everyone. I haven't figured out how to live through it yet.

I guess that isn't really a boss fight. Usually then I'd say Arishok or Xebenkeck.

High Dragon. I haven't beaten it yet...just can't be bothered. That damn mine is hopeless. I found the dragon in the deep roads tougher than the ancient rock wraith, too.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who struggled with Ser Varnell. The Arishock was one I had no trouble with at all; I actually had more trouble on two of the other Qunari fights prior to the Arishock. With him, my rogue went Saarebas hunting (the Qunari mages were massacring me in the other fights)then went after the mooks that were attacking Varric and Merrill. I suddenly noticed the Arishock was reduced to about 25% of his hits and hit him with twin fangs, mark of death, a few swipes and exploding blow. Dead Arishock.  Hmm...I wonder if he's stronger if you duel him than if you face all the all Qunari together.

It's definitely tougher if you duel him one on one than if you have your whole party. The only reason to do it is for the satisfaction, but I have to say.. it's some fine satisfaction. :)
