Software engineer.

I prefer the term "software artiste".  Sadly I can't take credit for that one, but it's a wonderful description!

I wish that was true. Ghehe. These days you rarely create software on your own. It's a team effort. Maybe web scripters can do something on their own, but I am not into that. ;)

Archaeologist specialising in the Archaic Greek period.

That sounds like a great job. When i was a kid i wanted to be an archaeologist. Greek history is a really interesting field.

It's fascinating. I was always intrigued with Greek mythology when I was a child. As I learned more about it I thought "why the heck not make it your career?" and so I did. Now that I've gotten deeper into it, I'd quite like to branch out into some areas of pre-history. It's the mystery of the unknown that really draws me in. We can never truly know if our interpretations are correct but it's very rewarding trying to achieve as plausible an interpretation as possible. :)

I'm too injured to work at the minute but hopefully only for another 3-6 weeks then I can return to being frustrated by job hunting. Its a great time to be alive.

Working as a "nurse" (not quite a nurse but not sure of the English word for it) in a psychiatric emergency ward. The pay is incredibly crappy and the job can be pretty tough on you at times but I love doing it. You never know what awaits you when you go to work. :)

I code and (politely) argue with health insurance companies all day to make them honor their #$@% contracts. Rule number one: Don't bite people; it's not that particular employee's fault the company's being devious.

Can we trade, Paci? Yours sounds more entertaining.

The web guys can't really work in isolation either: if anything they have their work cut out trying to keep everyone happy since their bit sits between the users and coders, two groups of people who are totally unreasonable!  Even as someone who likes doing their own thing, working as part of a good team is a wonderful experience; although working in a bad (or badly managed) team is less enthralling...

Officially: unemployed since 2008

Unofficially: Tech support for everyone within 5 blocks of my parent's house. They let it slip to the neighbors that I worked as tech support/customer service since I turned 18 (up until being laid off) and I haven't gotten much peace since. I also keep the house clean and cook. The cleaning could count as a full-time job by itself, with 5 dogs and 2 cats around. (the cats are mine, the dogs are my parents)

[Edit]: I do almost always get paid for the tech support work I do around here; doesn't help make it less annoying that everyone comes to me with all their computer problems, though. :pinched:

It's nice that you get paid; a lot of people seem to expect it for free, oddly; they don't seem to get that asking you to come and spend hours straightening out their computer for nothing isn't really any different to phoning someone up and saying "will you come around and do the vacuuming for me?  And you can wash my dishes while you're at it, too."

Yeah, being paid for it is the silver lining.  As the neighbors have told me, they don't mind paying me 'cause I'll get it fixed the first time.  I've never made a second trip for the same problem. (I'm still wondering when they'll run out of things to call me for, haha. )

One of them even told me something along the lines of, "I paid the Geek Squad $X and it came back worse than it left.  I'd rather pay you, knowing it'll be done right the first time.". (one of my favorite compliments)

(getting the occasional ecstatic hug from their cute college-age daughters for straightening out the laptop they need for school doesn't hurt either )
