After playing dragon age 2 would you like to be able to have multiple races back and how do you think Bioware cold go about making a story with multiple races, but with the same senario.

My example of a Bioware creating a multiracial for your create a character for Dragon Age 3 is quite simple.

The character you create for the new game would be found from an abandon merchant cart by your adopted parents or new guardian. This scenario is not only simple, but it would give Bioware an excuse to bring back the ability for you to create an elf, a dwarf and a human character. It was fun playing Hawke, but I would love to play as an elf again or a dwarf. Its nice because you wouldn't have to worry about a location or different backgrounds. All you would know is your character was found at a mysterious merchant kart and their parents were killed. -Tooneyman

I'm going to ask all of you who miss the multiple races to please hit this thread up and tell Bioware why you miss the multiracial and give good story scenarios on how to bring them back into the games without costing a lot of money and to much attention to detail.

Another good scenario is Neverwinter Nights 2 where you have an adopted elf father. You can be any race you want and it doesn't matter because you know who your start father is. :wizard:

This thread is also for people who didn't like the multiple races in the game. Please give us your opinion on why you don't think they are nessecary and why you felt it didn't matter if we have them back.

Rules to this thread. Make sure all comments are clean and are for debate only.  Have fun!

Plus I would like Bioware to consider maybe adding the ability of being able to create your character as a Qunari as well. I wold be very excited if they added this race to create a charater for DA 3.

I added a very simple poll to see if people would like it back.

I like the idea of multiple races again, though starting from a set character allows for greater depth.

I obviously would like race selection back. Why? Because it gives the game plenty of replay value. And allows for greater RP'ing.

In DA2, this is basically the role-playing aspect: Warrior, Rogue or Mage

Diplomatic, Witty or Aggresive

Pro-Mage, Pro-Templar or Neutral. That's it.

I really don't see where this "greater depth" arguement stems from. Other than an excuse to voice the protagonist and limit him or her to a voiceset, it really didn't seem like there were many more options for the player in DA 2 that were monopolized upon in great detail over the Warden character in DA:O.

I was referring to narrative and backstory rather than options. An outcast or orphan with no ties is a blank canvas, which is great in some ways. Someone with roots and a living family and a home has a far greater depth to their story before you even get there, which is also great in its own way.

I hated being stuck with an only Human protaganist right up until the very moment I saw my first Elf in DA2.

Now I'm completely good with it. Better than fine. No really. Don't put yourself out on my account.

That. So much that. I was so hoping my video card had gone bonkers, when seeing my first DA 2 elf, but alas, it was working like it should. Unfortunately.

And then I failed to find a female dwarf. They've all gone on holiday together, it seems. So there went that race.

Unfortunately I'd be lucky to look even as good a Zevran...who somehow managed to get hit in the face with a shovel between games. After which someone shaved his eyebrows off.

At least his antivan boots weren't stolen, keeping him from suffering the fate of all other elves.

That's not what happened, Bioware decided that the Dwarf race is now asexual.
You know, streamlining and all, more content per Mr. Laidlaw.

The only thing I'd change about the elves is the freakish noses and foreheads that look like cromagnons. Other than that the elves look fine to me in DA2.

I see no reason to bring back the multi-racial choice from DA:O. Because the game is going in the direction of voiced protagonist, it would cost MORE to make multiple races to pick from and then have a different voice for each race that you choose from. Or if they chose to go the route of having the same voice for each race like having the person who did FemHawke voice each of the 3 female choices, and then the voice for MaleHawke do the voice for all 3 male choices, it would cost more because they would have to do the voices and lip syncing to each racial choice.

Reasoning behind this is dwarves are smaller than humans so camera panning down to where a dwarf is to see the dwarf protagonist speaking. Elves taller than dwarves but smaller than humans, meaning again panning the camera to where the Elf face is, and then the human of course.

Fact is it would cost a lot more to produce the game that way. And I doubt that Bioware or EA are going to go back to the silent protagonist approach which would be cheaper for a multi-racial game but as I said they won't go that route.

But..., but what about reproduction? That's not logical.....??

Oh! I see. Logic is also streamlined, no?

I would love to have multiple races to select from. A background would be easy. Look at a multi-cultural city like Kirkwall. You'll find any race there. BW is better dreaming up stories than me, so I leave that up to them. Of course, I would like to get away from Kirkwall in DA3, but any large city would do.

I don't think it will happen, though. I believe they have chosen a single race to reduce the costs of developing armor for non-human races. That's why there is also companion specific armor. It also prevents the need for race specific dialogue. It's a hunch, though.

Logic has nothing to do with DA2. They threw it away with the female dwarves.

I would like to be able to choose multiple races again. Mostly because it really adds to the replay value, but also because the ability to choose a different background made the world seem so much bigger and deeper. It really felt as if it was your story instead of some set character.

But i like the new look of the elves. They look much more like their own race instead of a shrunken human with pointy ears ;)

Depends. The best would obviously be to have both different races to choose from along with corresponding voiced dialogue. I really like that the main characters in DA2 and ME both have their own voices, as it makes up for the lack of racial customization. The downside is obviously that I can't play as an elf in DA2 or an asari in ME, but on the other hand: Would it fit?

So it depends on what fits the game's plot best. Would it make sense to play as a dwarf when the entire storyline is about saving humanity? Or would playing a human in such a case do the game more justice? What organisations is the main character affiliated to and what are their stance on other races?

All I "demand", or want rather, is that if we do not get to choose from other races we get voice overs instead. If we get more customization I can live without voice over, but I'd still want it in. Conversations in Origins felt a bit weird imo, oftenmost you had companions or other characters do the talk for you indirectly, having them say what your character would say, as piling up 5 rows of text for the player to read would not work very well.

Obviously I want the option to play an elf again, and a dwarf, and even a Qunari if possible. But that would most likely come at the cost of a voiced protagonist, something that to me has been quite a perk while playing ME2 and DA2.

This.

Sure the elves weren't exactly pretty in Origins but atleast they actually looked like elves instead of a cheap Na'vi rip-off. And if they finaly have to change them, atleast come up with something a little more original. Heck if you ask me, BioWares own version of the sexy blue space babe is much better than James Camerons.

For some reason i like the new Qunari design though. I didn't like it when i first found out but i have to admit it worked out pretty well.

But i am getting off topic. To Answer the question, yes i do want multiple races back and preferably also Origin stories. I mostly play as humans anyway but it is nice to actually have the choice.

Yes. Bioware can still have their canonical human Hawke, but I'd rather play other races as well.

I'd much prefer elves to be like my female mage avatar pic here.

<--- Look? She's pretty. Much better looking than the DA2 elves, which I find to be a cheap rip off of the Navi from Avatar.

The artists probably thought it was a good idea to change the elves while watching avatar. I think they were watching some kind of Clown show when they did the darkspawn.

I'm all for multiple races, but the DA2 elf look is horrible...

I don't care about elves and dwarves. I will allways play a human given the option. I do not mind if the option is in untill it does not compromise the voice over. I don't want to return to the silent protagonist.

Perhaps dwarves are now the Asari of DA world, they just breed with humans, elves (and possibly Qunari) and dwarven children result (I guess their genes will be like elven ones in reverse, all childen are born dwarves).  Clearly therefore, any dwarven females thought to have been encountered (or played) in Origins will obviously pure hallucinations on the players part :P

Oh and on the topic at hand, yes I would want races back, and I think having played DA2 through it could have been done in the game, they just didn't want to for resource reasons I guess

She's preeeeeeetty. But i still like the DA2 elves even though they look like the Na'vi.

I do agree on the darkspawn though. They were horrible.
