I just performed a search on the term "vanguard" in the ME forums. It returned a max of 51 results with none of them being current.
I then performed the same search in the Mass Effect 1 & 2 classes, Strategy and Builds Forum (Spoilers Allowed) sub-forum.
Same max 51 results with zero results having a current post in them. The first result had a last post date of "Created about 1 year ago, Modified about 1 year ago"
It would appear that the search results are returning a max of 51 results with a return order of Oldest first which is almost useless.
Please adjust the search result's sort order to be most recent post first and if possible increase the result number to at least double.
Thank you.

This is a well known, well documented and frequently mentioned problem with the site. You'll, for the foreseeable future, have to use an external search engine such as Google if you wish to search these boards properly.
It does help to be a little more specific, though. Simply searching for the term 'vanguard' would find all posts with it in, and that is a lot of posts.

Thanks for the reply, OnlyShallow89. Please stop. Your post provides no help, and assumes incorrectly too much.
Yes, "vanguard" can be a relatively generic search term. However, that's not what the post is about. The search term used merely serves to provide an example of the problem with the sort order and number of results returned.
Since the search is broken in this way, it is NOT well and frequently documented. Before posting I browsed manually through the first 3 pages of this forum and did not find a single post about the issue. It is something worth pointing out even if it's been done before.
Further, I've been using google for my searches since the beginning. I'm addressing an issue with BW's search, not google's.
I would thank you for allowing Bioware respond. This is a specific issue that only they can address.

People have been moaning about the search function since it appeared. It's not been fixed in over a year, and I'm sure it's on their 'To-Do' list, but who knows when it'll get changed?
They know about it.

Actually, the problem I'm referring to is recent to the re-implementation of the search function...

And it functions exactly the same as it always did. It's never worked properly.

I think Shallow provided alot of help and told you why the issue was happening (this is ongoing and not a recent problem) and how to go about searching for yourself. Like it or not Bioware does know about the issue as it is frequently mentioned. Its up to them now if they wish to fix it.
Taking a hostile tone with another forum member for helping you really insn't appropriate! In fact im pretty shocked by your reaction to someone trying to helping you! Secondly Bioware doesn't usually reply to threads where you make demands of them in an aggressive manner.

@Only... you're simply incorrect. It's worked prior to the recent site revamp, and while not the greatest, it never did this prior to the last time it was taken off the site (about a month ago if I remember correctly...)
I've been on these boards since prior to search being implemented the first time. I've been using the search function since it was. It has been wonky in different ways but it's worked pretty much the same as always until it went offline again after being briefly offline for the DA2 mess.
You're both insulting and completely incorrect in assuming you know more than anyone else. You are a user that at best is rehashing what's been said by others. You are not BW. You have NO IDEA if they know anything or not.
@ Captain Crash... Shallow has provided absolutely no help in this instance. He/She suggested to use google, instead. Yep, knew about that. And again, this thread has nothing to do with requesting alternate solutions. It was a simple post since NO OTHER post could be found with a reasonable amount of manual searching about an issue with a function that neither you NOR Shallow know anything or can do anything about.
Yes, I know BW's track record. Thanks yet again for assuming my idiocy in this matter. And once again, help was neither requested nor needed.
Nor was a demand made in any sense of an aggressive manner. But I'm sure BW appreciates that you are there standing between them and a simple notification/request to the company. They probably feel nothing but warm and fuzzy thanks to your tireless defense...
I will in the future be sure to address the both of you in any new post and make it plain whether I'm requesting help.
And just in case you misread this post, there is no animosity expressed herein. What you read into it is a product of your own coloring of my words. You can feel free to read exasperation if you choose and you'll be fairly close to realizing just how much head-shaking and eye rolling I'm doing right now.

And this is where I'd like to point out that this site is mostly member-based help. Look at most, if not all, topics from the past few days/weeks and you'll see BioWare respond to very few. Either way, the search function has not changed in any real way since it first existed. It's always shown a small selection of outdated topics in no useful order, and that has not yet been addressed, but it is a known issue, both to BioWare and to those who frequent the site. Just because the past three or four pages of this subforum don't have any topics about it, it doesn't mean it's not well-documented.
If you're insulted by us responding to your topic, then fine. You put up a query in the public domain, and we responded to you as we would any other query or topic. There is no way for any member to help you with this topic beyond suggesting alternative things to do, which is exactly what I did. Neither I, Captain Crash nor yourself can fix the search function, but all we members can do is suggest alternatives.
If you absolutely must have a BioWare response, then you need to PM Jeff Rousell, who is one of the web team and I believe one of the more prolific helpers.

Just to beat a dead horse, what OnlyShallow89 said about BSN's search function is correct. It's always produced 51 results and always started from the oldest first. Not only that, but it only searches the subject headers rather than the posts itself, so if you're looking for subjects about "vanguard," it'll only produce threads in which "vanguard" was in the title. And yes, this needs to be fixed, but it's a problem that's been around for a year and a half now and has been mentioned in this Site Help forum many times.
You might want a BioWare forum administrator to respond, but for those who have seen people make this request before, pointing out an alternative doesn't seem like too much an imposition considering how every prior request was received. And OnlyShallow's other suggestion probably serves you better, which is to PM Jeff Roussell directly. Though I suspect if they don't have a solution in the pipeline soon, requests get filed in the "to-do" pile rather than them making empty promises that something will be done eventually.
I just thought I'd mention this all since it seems uncalled for to be snippy on the public Site Help forum, especially with one of the few posters who actually tries to provide help when people post to this little frequented section of BSN.

The best and simplest work around is to do as OnlyShallow suggested, use Google. Specifically use Google's advanced search features to search just the forums for whatever term you are looking for. You can even restrict the search by date.
It's neither convenient nor simple, but it's the best option we have now. And given the total lack of response to complaints about the search feature since this site was implemented, it's likely to remain the best solution.
OP, you've been given help by two of the cutest avatars on these here boards. Show your appreciation.

Oddly enough, if you do a search on "search" you'll see 51 results, and the majority are about the forum search. I'm just sayin'.

Use it as you normally would, but instead of saying "BioWare Social" or even just "BioWare", you'll want to use this search term - site:social.bioware.com
That'll filter it so it's only this website.
