pfff you guys have so hijacked my thread :P Im trying to learn here people!!.. oh well :P Atleast some good came from this

Rest as often as you need.  You will get better with experience.  I now do full areas without a rest just on principle.

And my post above was to you specifically.  Go back up and read it- any player of a wizard should know those things;  they will make your virtual life much easier.

I didnt mean all the saves and stuff, as i said above, the only derailment was the rod of prep, which i guess has a place here... It doesnt matter either way, all info is welcome.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work with metamagic.  But all you need is on your computer right now.

I mainly was addressing Darqion - who needs to learn how to open the toolset, create an item, save it to a .uti, drop it in the proper Overrides, and import it with the console.  Each of these have generated multiple threads in themselves, but you already know how to do all that.

Once you have that all in mind, just open the toolset, make an item - anything that will allow Cast Spell - which I think is anything at all - and assign it two properties:  Cast Spell Clear Sequencer (once/day or whatever) and Cast Spell Sequencer (1, 2, or 3 spells; again, once/day or whatever).

The code was left in from NWN1 and works just fine, though the NWN2 folks never provided any items.

Thanks, I'll take a look, but I think the Rod of Preparation is better for me.

Basically, the OC is a bit messed up because whilst it's generally agreed to be relatively easy, at least by experienced players (which is a good thing, I think, since the game can be tough on you when you're new), it has certain traits which can make it annoying.

Early on, wizards will always have a tough time, because they have few spells and few hit points. The OC quite likes to throw large numbers of foes at you, which makes the wizard's AoE spells quite powerful (when you get them) but their single-target offense relatively poor. I'd suggest spells like Sleep early on, just because they can hit multiple people.

Basically, the game seems geared up for people to rest before/after every fight; however, it's also fairly easy. This means that it's quite possible to play it in a more realistic way, resting less often.

As for buffing, well, using buffs smartly can make fights a lot easier. They do get pretty tedious, though. I tend to use a couple of long-duration ones like Ghostly Visage or Stoneskin and keep them up pretty much all the time.

So you guys think i should play on a harder setting? I think im playing on normal and friendly fire seems to be disabled. It might make some spells WAY to strong which i wouldnt like. Does one setting up change more then friendly fire?

Changing to hardcore enables friendly fire, and I think also makes certain spells last longer (durations of some disabling effects like Hold are shortened under easy and, iirc, normal). However, this is far from mandatory. A lot of people prefer it because it's more realistic, but you could just try to limit your resting more if you wanted to make up for the ease with which you can regain all spells, abilities and health.

You get a list of all the crap it affects when you change difficulty, and yes you should go for hardcore since you're not a total noob.

And remember...>SAVE< I just did about 2 and half hours of play through the OC and got into a bad point most my party was dead and instead of running to heal...I fought it out and the last baddie got me. Only to find my last save was the one I loaded up to start up for the night.....GRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr

So much for clearning two levels of area's.... Yah so autosave sucks at time so remember the quicksave button is your best freind. I need to get back into the habit of doing so every time I rest.

I think resting procedure in NWN2 is great just as it is. Especialy when there's a limit, for example when you can't rest more than two times in 5 minutes or something like that.

Lol this game is silly... this no agro system stuff is annoying.. i stay out of sight, run in my tank, and they walk right passed him and start attacking my mage.. cant run or cast or they`ll insta kill me because of those attacks of opportunity.. guess i`ll needa load up on defensive spells :/

Party ai off and they still switch targets every 2 seconds. really helpful too. getting owned in this bandit camp, cant even get passed the first encounter lol

edit: yeah this game is weird... i aim my fireball right in the middle of the room and the AI decides it wants to put it right in front of me :/ what is wrong with this game

ok i suck or something.. a spawn of 15 guys is really fair at this stage in the game... or not. I cant cast or i`ll get shot down in 2 seconds. i cant heal or i`ll get shot down in 2 seconds, i cant move.. my mirror image which sounds awesome is gone in 2 seconds. So combat lasts 2 seconds for me then i have to reload

....yay almost had it and the game crashes. this keeps getting better and better

not sure how they expect me to survive this crap though. spend all my heal pots on one encounter? this early in the game, shouldnt it be a bit more manageble instead of trowing 15 archers at my ass :/ i dunno, might just be me

Gonna put it away for today and rethink how much i can like a game that feels like kicking my ass

Be careful  where you click for your target.  It sounds like you tried to target the ground but an enemy was too close to your mousetip and you targeted him, instead.

unfortunately there are far too many tricks, traps, tactics in this game to mention .......

and since this is a no spoiler forum I can't even reminisce on how I first got chugga'd there. Let's just say it is a tough spot.

Two things crossed my mind, tho:
1. turn the difficulty down a notch & have at it again,
2. console your character(s) a level of Xp and that might turn the tide ..

unless there's technical objections? You really should get rid of that crash thing ( yah, it bites, been there too )

And remember to freaking save....lol went back after my post and cleared that area again. It's anouther like the area your speaking of Darqion. As you will find out in the OC there are a few MOB type areas (as in alot of bad guys to handle). Learn to micro mang your party helps big time. All so it helps to hit things in waves. Pull back into a safe area and heal up. Watch for traps cause they will crit you faster than anything.

Oh and did I say SAVE ALOT.

Cause I'm I done alot of early (frist chapter) play throughs I don't rest as much cause I know what to expect. Though it's handy to pull back, rest and save alot when your doing things for the first or secound time. Specialy when your lower level and a Mage that have limited spells and HP's

There is something of an aggro system, it's just not what you might get in other games. In a lot of ways it's more realistic, because being able to run a tank/nuke tactic is pretty silly. If I was a monster, I'd run past the tank to kill the spellcaster any day. That said, the AI is not that intelligent. It's one of the accepted flaws with the game, though they did improve it a lot with SoZ.

So... how does the agro work then because building a tank seems useless if he will agro on the first spell cast :P i`ll have it it again for a few more tries.. maybe try some pulling tactics (although im against those myself) just to get the early game out of the way for now. I guess i couldve picked better spells too, but I`ll safe that wisdom for a next time :P

I agree with Fred, aggro systems like Dragon Age's seem sillier to me. Pressing a key and having every enemy run towards you, while your companions backstack them?

Just attack with your warriors, leave your weaker characters back and with ranged weapons, and you should be fine. You'll get attacked sometimes, of course, but you have defensive spells for a reason. And you can always flee if you're in danger.

"Tanks" doesn't exist here as in other games. A 100% defensive character isn't good, everyone should contribute to offense too.

There's no threat system at all, aggro is entirely controlled by the AI. The good side of that is that you can nuke all you want without having the enemies zerg you if they weren't doing that already. How they act also depends on how smart they are, so a bunch of bandits are likely to shoot your mage but wild animals etc should just attack the first thing they see (the smarter ones often do this too actually, only archers/casters are really unpredictable). For the smart enemies you can do stuff like have your fighter stand at a doorway so the bad guys can't go stab your mage etc. A tank certainly is helpful in this game even without a threat system.

I actualy been haveing a blast on the Arcan Archer play through I am doing. Target one....Mage/Shaman/Clerics...than I'll go for there Captians/Leaders/elites in groups. I notice alot of fights I use to do in other playthrough with mainly up close combat guys is going alot easier cause of this. I done about 5 play through through the first act trying out diffrent builds and such. Stil haven't picked one to finish up the game other than my first play through with a Palidine.

Kinda of like the agro system cause it is more real. I just hate the AI some times when one party member goes running off to attack a bad guy all by himself when the rest is still fighting back down the tunnel.

Basically, enemies will tend to attack the first enemy they see, but will switch depending on certain conditions. It's something like, if they get hit for 1/4 of their health, or are attacked by someone more powerful than the person they're attacking etc. In general this is smarter, so that you can't have one defensive guy soaking up the hits whilst your hard-hitter cuts everyone to pieces. It's not quite as simple as that, but it's not exaclty intelligent. TonyK's AI improves on this a lot; they even included bits of it in SoZ.
