Where it really gets interesting, is where that someone who's complaining, doesn't, like, move on with their life after the game's been out for over a year, and they're still here, in this forum, complaining.  Not only that, more than likely they're going to buy the next game as well.  Not only will they complain about the game after they've played it, they'll complain about the game BEFORE they've played it.

Even more interesting is more often than not, complaints of a Bioware game are followed by a shout out to either (insert Obsidian game), Planescape:Torment or The Witcher.

I really hope the Mass Effect 3 isn't going to be a Dragon Age 2 game.... Where you are only at Kirkwall...

The WHOLE GALAXY needs to be defended and explored! I will not play Mass Effect game where you are on earth for about 15-20 hrs and the other alien species joins you to help defend Earth and then it's over...

It's Epic fail...

Um, by reading the OP you can see that the visitation of a plethora of planets has been in fact confirmed.

Eh, considering that you won't visit Earth except for the beginning and the end, I don't see how it's possible.

That Orgin of Species bit posted on Game Informer also strongly hinted we'll be seeing aliens we haven't seen before.  Yup, we're not setting up camp in Yellowstone Park for the entire game - nowhere near it.

Don't forget the Raloi. Or the Sygans.

Sygans?

I only heard of Raloi and those virtual aliens, but Sygans?

Not "Sygans", one of them was called Sygan. At the moment, they don't have a name.

The virtual aliens are the Sygans, named after Ambassador Sygan.

EDIT: Yeah, I should have mentioned this is not an official name.

Uuum, ME1 had one reaper. Now there will most likely be hundreds of them. And while it does make sense that they would attack Earth, it wouldn't make sense they would focus all or most of their forces on just one planet. I know this won't be the case entirely, since a reaper battle on Thuchanka was confirmed, but I would still be disappointed, if ME3 was one big mission to save Earth instad of the the whole galaxy.

1st that 1 Reaper job was to successfully activate Citadel Mass Relay to call other Reapers and do surprise attack while other worlds had no idea what happen. Only without attacking them since Soveregin could control Keepers then since in ME1 Protheans scientist made sure of it he couldn't.

2nd like I said, then need stronghold, they have no longer element of surprise. They choose Earth do to Shepard.

3rd even if you are saving Earth in as last mission in ME3, you're still saving galaxy. If you fail saving Earth, every single race falls as well.

You have some valid points there. But it would still be pretty disappointing if the game revolved mainly around saving Earth. You know, like rally all the different spicies, save the Earth from reapers, the end. It would be awesome, if saving Earth was just the begining of the end, if you know what I mean. Like once the Earth is saved, everyone makes that final push to take down the reaper threat for good. It would give you a much better sense in that you are saving the galaxy and not just Earth.
Basically I don't want the game to feel like we are just saving Earth. And even if saving Earth means saving the whole galaxy, it wouldn't be so great if the game felt like one big "saving Earth" mission.

Will some people ever stop thinking of "Earth" as a dirty word? I really don't get this generally misinformed and highly exaggerated preemptive criticism about the game. Anyways thanks Phaedon for your OP it was a solid read that did a good job of piecing toghter a plot from what we know. I think the Prothean and Reaper mythologies as well as Cerberus will form a much bigger story backbone than your plot structure suggests though, but I get that those things require more speculation than what you were intending

Indeed, they do.
I can see things getting very interesting during the third act, and specifically our visit to Mars.

Seeing all those homeworlds, learning about Reapers, gathering allies from likely and unlikely sources all the while being hunted like an animal by assasins feeling how they breath down your neck. This just can't fail for me.

I think we will be landing on Mars for sure, ever since I saw that incredible image in the ME1 galaxy map. Fun to think of it as vastly inhabited.

Combine that with the UT3 engine modified to it's fullest of capabilities, music by Clint Mansell, improved shooter and RPG elements and space battles.

And Wrex.

And Liara.

And Tali.

Why would non-human fleets sacrifice themselves for Earth?

Maybe they don't want to wait till Earth gets destroyed and their own world gets under siege with one ally less.

Because in this case saving Earth might be equal to saving the galaxy. While losing Earth would probably mean that all life in galaxy would get wiped out.
However if you can convince an entire fleet to make the ultimate sacrifice should depend a great deal on how convincing your Shepard is going to be...
