I have started reading this forum, but haven't read a solution yet. Please help, if you can.
Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition installed, new, first install.
XP. Administrator.
Opened account online without game. Same name and password.
Redeemed code for 7 downloadable content packs.
Downloaded video driver update and installed.
Downloaded Dragon Aga update and installed.
I can see my content ( packs ) in my account.
I have a dial up moden connection to the Internet.
I am connected at 24.0 Kbps.
My Dragon Age game will not connect to the Internet at the location at the beginning of the game.
Therefore, as you know, no game is available to me.
I have tried every combination of dial up I can think of, including already looking at the web site as I ask the game to log in.
I have read most, scanned the rest, of the read me files.
I have been to the page for downloading the extras as .dazip, but it would take me weeks, and still it would not log on probably.
Wish I could blame your server.
Thanks.
Can't log in with Dragon Age. Will not play.

I'm still reading forums.
I've tried turning off the firewall. No help.
I've left the firewall with these exceptions:
C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daupdatersvc.ser
C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\DAOriginsLauncher.exe
C:\\Program Files\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe
In case somebody can tell me if settings here in DragonAge.ini are wrong, here are those:
[OnlineOptions]
EnableOnlineTelemetry=1
AutoScreenshots=1
AutoScreenshotsNotification=1
AutoUploadScreenshot=0
AutoUploadProfile=1
NucleusOnlineLoginAuthenticationToken=(UNASSIGNED)
EnableOnlineAutoLogin=0
EnableOneTimeOnlineAutoLogin=0
EnableOnlineFeatures=1
EnableOnlineStats=1
AutoDownloadOffers=1
InstallPromptInGame=1
AutoDownloadOldEntitlements=1
AutoUploadAchievements=0
AutoUploadStats=0
ScreenshotFilterOption=0
ShownServerClosed=0
In 'configure', the second to the last item, "Network" has no figures if I am not on line at all. The game then says, "No servers available", (or something similiar}.
If I am online (as people would be with high speed connections), it tries to connect, but says it can not. Why?
I'm sorry to be learning about computers instead of playing DA. Please help. I'm still reading forums.
Thanks.

Greetings,
Forums, forums and more forums. How could there be such discontent?
I'm still reading forums.
I dissconnected:
Search and Destroy
modem accelerator
Firewall
Most protection in Internet Explorer (should I enable pop-ups?). Please...
I found a support notice at EA, so I changed my password to something simple:
QUESTION
Why do I get a System Error when I try to log in to my EA Account through Dragon Age: Origins?
ANSWER
There is a system error that appears when users try to log in with their EA Accounts through Dragon Age: Origins. The error message is:
'System Error, please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact EA Customer Support.'
The password authentication system in Dragon Age: Origins will trigger this error message if your password contains special characters.
You can solve this issue by updating your password through the EA website. To update your password, follow the steps below:
Go to: https://profile.ea.com/myinfo.do
Log in with the e-mail address linked to your EA Account, and your current password.
Click on the Change password button.
Enter your old password, then enter your desired new password.
Make sure your new password does not contain any special characters, such as asterisks, dashes, etc.
6 character minimum, letters and numbers only.
Click on the Change password button again.
Your password will be automatically updated. The changes should be instant. You can try to log in to your EA Account through Dragon Age: Origins once again.
AND there is more, but that's enough for now. Please help. Thanks. Wait, both the 'Support' (goes to forums, BTW, not to EA support) and 'Website' on the title page (where it also says, 'Play') all make it to the correct website. Why can't the game???!!!!

You only have to make the connection the first time, and in many regards, everything is much simpler if you are Logged Out while playing, whether or not you have Broadband 'net. If possible, haul your gear to a friend's, where you can get better speed on his / her connection, and get the game to authorize that once, and log back off (remaining "off" when playing at home).

Thanks for helping, Gorath Alpha. I really appreciate your effort.
"Haul your gear to a friend's", this would not have been my first choice, but it could be done, maybe. It's big, very, very big. There is no wireless connection equipment installed. With no fast Internet available, there's no need for LANs, routers, wireless. They would have to know what they were doing to get this aircraft carrier connected on their system. I know nothing about speed.
Someone out there knows how to get this game to 'log on' and 'verify' from a modem. I will also call my local service provider, I can't be the only local dial up customer to want to play DAUE!

Ever since about 2005 or so, almost all PCs, be they laptops or desktops, have had an ethernet port on the backplane. It comes built in, all you do is plug the ethernet cable into it (much, MUCH cheaper and more secure than wireless LAN connections).

If the friend you bring your computer to has a broadband connection with a wireless router, you can likely just use an ethernet cable like Gorath said to hook up your computer to that router. You should be online with no hassle then.

It is really beginning to look like this is what I must do.
I have had all the security I can think of turned off. I feel gremlins crawling all over my computer. Ethernet cable. And it won't matter that it is someone else's account?
I now know the ports you need for C&C Generals from EA support. And they did have lots of help for connecting, but nothing that worked for me. They have a cool little trace program. I still might be able to find the ports needed for DAUE.
Thank you both for your help.
