as most of you know buying mass effect 2 used means you will not have access to cerbeus network and the DLC of the game i would like to know how you feel about this and i also invite bioware to provide me with their side of the argument

Mod Edit: I think this video is very important to the Discussion

You have access to it - they just charge you for it. Bioware's side of the story is that it encourages buying new and gives them a piece of the used market that they wouldn't otherwise have, since they see nothing whatsoever from resells.

I never honestly anymore buy Used Game Copys since Digital Download came out on the internet. Why buy a Used Copy which will (In most cases usually) ask for you to inset the CD-DvD Disc when you can just buy/download it online without any need of insetting a disc? :)

EA's project $10 is a pretty smart thing imo. It's a smart way for publishers to protect thier product and actually gain some profit from thier product. Because in a way, buying a used game is no different then piracy for the developers and publishing companies. You buy the game second hand and not a single penny goes to the developers and publishers. Only the middle man, like Gamestop has profits from it. You don't support the developers one bit, if you buy used games.
I'm no fan of EA, but I'm fine with their porject $10. And it usually doesn't concern me anyways, since I almost always buy my games new.

Most of these games aren't worth 60.00 thats why I wait and buy used. Mass Effect 1 and 2 were bought new though.I support publishers who make good long games.
I just picked up Dead Space 2 used for 32.00, 8 hours later...done. Full price my ass.

Buying used is cheating the devs out of their hard earned money imo....

The guys from extra credits tend to be more elequent than me so.. http://www.escapistm...ject-Ten-Dollar

Cheap short-cut to a well thought out argument, but this is basically it.

it doesn't bother me that much

that said just looking at the big picture? look at people interested in playing older games from yesteryear, personally i never got much of a chance to play a lot of ps2 and gamecube and xbox games and what that means is about 98% of older games are well... used games, now imagine i went back and played something like Zelda: Wind Waker and a good chunk of content was locked away, imagine at this point Nintendo doesn't even support the network used to obtain said content? well i probably wouldn't spend $15 + the cost of DLC for a game i bought used for $15 to begin with, the cost/benefit ratio plummets when the full game is so cheap... and besides would i rather spend wads of cash on extra content for an old game or on something new?

point is at some point there's really no benefit to locking away content regardless of how gamers get the game, it's definitely an incentive at the start but someday used copies will be the only physical copies available, not to mention what's the point when the game is only $20?

I think it's a smart move, esp when used with quality titles with long development cycles. I find that I only really care about marginal, extra content in games that I truly cherish, like the ME series.

DA2 is an example of a game I rented, completed, and I felt absolutely no compulsion to prolong the experience with middling content.

Someday in the future, like 10 years from now, you will prolly be able to buy Mass Effect trilogy remastered pack (online download or physical copy), wich will include all three games + all available dlc. So Cerberus Network codes won't even be needed. And until then, you can either buy the game new for 20 bucks (online download or gamestore), or buy it used at Gamestop for 15 bucks and pay for some additional dlc online if you so choose. And don't wory, XBL and PSN aren't going away anytime soon. Heck, online support for the original Xbox games was shut down only last year, that's 5+ years after the X360 launch.

One problem with his alternative scenario.  Sure, using his examples say EA gets $30 from a New Game.  Ok, so they make the game $35? You think Gamestop is going to be ok with $5 profit when they and every other company are used to a $60 game meaning $30 profit for them too?  Not gonna happen.

As for my opinion on Project Ten Dollar,  I have no problem with it, in fact I think it's perfectly fine.   I understand how the used market hurts creators, be it video games or music.  The game developers have come up with a way to compensate somewhat.

No matter how good a game is, it's headed for the bargain bin someday.

I didn't buy the first Mass Effect until it was marked way down. New package and new disc but the game debuted at least six months before I bought it. I paid $30 for it, IIRC.

Played it. Loved it. Bought the sequel as soon as it came out and paid full price. No regrets.

If you don't buy every new thing that comes out, you can be cheap by being choosy.

That's exactly how I feel. I came home with DA2 excited to pop it in, and I ended up letting it just sit there and download the 'magical day one DLC' and well, yeah it didn't feel too special.

TL:DR, I don't mind Gamestop getting screwed over in their used-game market.

I bought both MEs for thirty bucks. I sure don't mind forking out the money to buy Cerberus extra.

To me I think its a good thing and bad thing.

1: it makes you more willing to buy it new which reduces the odds of you being disappointed if the disc does not work if you bought it used.

2. helps maintain sales more in the long run due to the reduction of repurchasing of games

The down side is

1. increased waste due to more discs being likely to be purchased due to being (second hand)

2. decreases the resale value of a game

3. reduces the amount of old stock sold by shops (causing space issues for shops over time)

It's the latest example of stupidity. Basically game store gets the money if you buy used. The game companies Bioware, EA, ect get the money if you buy new. So the companies want their money and the latest stupidity on the subject they want to make it so you're a pirate if you buy used games weather thats from your friend, relative, craigslist, or from a reputable gaming store. So I guess in how this new age logic works is the store itself is aiding in piracy and your stuff is not your stuff.

I also agree. It was annoying fiddling around with all the DLC on ME2's launch when I just wanted to paly the damned thing.

It's funny that they had "technical difficulties" when they were about to explain how exactly one could take this out on Gamestop... Don't get e wrong, I am all for this, but I don't really see a way to get those 10$ from gamestop on used games, other than having some sort of used games tax. That'd cause some legal issues though I bet.

One thing I know for sure though: Having special content you get as preorder bonus only when you preorder at Gamestop will not make this any better. In fact it supports gamestop. What is this? They are actively taking some of your profit away and you SUPPORT them?
I know, there are issues that make this seem worthwhile (like having your game featured prominently in the stores or sth) but isn't that counterproductive? (an annoying for everyone who doesn't want to preorder in five different places to get all the content)

this is supposed to ''test the product so they can rate it''... I don't give a crap about that I just want my games at day 1 (almost all of them...)
