The override folder acts as a grab bag, so that anything placed inside it will override the game's vanilla files. The problem is that Bioware used no folder structure in their ERF files, so their is no standardization between texture modders. I thought that everyone would move to override/textures, but I guess they did not. You can move them without causing any problems in the game though. As long as there is only one override folder (do not have one in My Documents too), and all the files are in the same folder (override or override/*) then the game will use them.
@Master - I am getting a lot of reports about RS being bad all the time. For me it is bad during the day, but is pretty decent at night. Danman Games has a private server and it was supposed to be online a few days ago. I have not had any contact with the web master since then, so I do not know what the issue is. I have tested it and it works, so it should not be much longer. Then you will be able to get the file directly from our server, as a single file.
Here are some new glory shots. These are not comparison pics sine I cannot hope to get the same shots again (ever). To see them properly, you should download them. I will post more tomorrow.

I don't undestand, will bioware release HD textures or the only provide you so you can release the mod?
BioWare has HD textures but they didn't ship the game with them. Hopefully we can have them eventually. I for one certainly would love to see them fix some of the sloppy texturing I see.

Get the uploader to mail you a DVD of the data. It will be faster than rapidshare. I'm sorry that this experience is the one you had to count on them for...

That's a good idea! But after reading more he will be puting up a file server very soon. I will just wait for that.
For real tho Rapisshare is setup to make you buy that service. I spent 4 hours last night just trying to get a free slot to d/l 1 of the 14 files. Always say's no free slots come back in 15mins. again lol @ "rapid"
Guess that shows how much I really want this MOD

Being that they're an EA shop now, that really wouldn't surprise me.

I had to reduce some of the textures in HiRes Pack 1 due to this. If the core textures had been released as full size then it would have acted like my Full HiRes Pack 1 (before I reduced). Now with 8GB of RAM I can play with everything, but those with less cannot. Bioware likely wanted to make sure that the game would work for everyone, so they nerfed the core textures.
I am constantly using RS, and the only time it does not work for me is during the workday hours (for North America East Coast). I have been putting as much pressure on my partners at DMG as possible to get this done, and I have been assured that it will be ready by this time tomorrow. If not then I will make other arrangements personally. I apologize for the crappy service that you are seeing from RS. I used it due to requests, just like MediaFire (which corrupted 6 mods @ 3 GB), and a few other services which promise a lot but supply nothing.
I am going to start a petition thread for Bioware to release the full sized core textures (found in \\\\Dragon Age\\\\packages\\\\core\\\\data\\\\Textures.erf) as a modding resource. This will absolve them of getting pelted with rotten vegetables when it makes the game more unstable. Then I can covert it to HiRes Pack 2 and then figure out how to get it working on systems with only 4GB of RAM. I will need everyone's support, so be sure to visit it and add a comment, as well as prod all your friends to do likewise.
If I get banned (crazier things have happened), then find me on my forum (www.danmangame.com).
This is also the site which will have the file server built into it.
I just got an update from our webmaster as I type this, and he is putting the finishing touches on it now. Fingers/Toes/Arms/Eyes - All crossed. Vampires beware! (tattoos on the eyes hurt!)
There the petition is started. Please read before you comment. The single "please" is the only way to keep it civil and get our point across. That way, everyone who attacks will just have their comment deleted.

Sorry, we try to discourage online petitions around here, since really, all you're asking is for people to spam one-word responses. If you wish to actually discuss the subject instead of spamming the forum, please start a new thread. Thank you.
ENd of line.
Which obviously shows they saw it, but didn't leave any reply related to the topic. He did give instructions: open new discussion thread. It is implied that there may be a reply from the developers then.

Next, to comment on the petition. They pulled the Bioware/EA reps from responding about these issues a month ago. Before that you can see messages where they contributed, and honestly tried to represent their company. Then they went dark, which can only mean that their bosses wanted communication to cease.
Now their comment that they "try to discourage petitioners around here" is complete rubbish. Put the word Petition into the search box and hit enter. It looks like they wanted to discourage That petition. Secondly, since they do not discourage petitions (since many of those hits you got from your search claim to be petitions), they obviously do not understand that mine was probably the only valid one. A petition is not a forum for discussion. It is where people who agree on a particular subject, band together to let their voice be heard. Since I did not see any way to have a vote on this forum, then I guess they want dissenters to voice opinions in petitions (which destroys the value of a petition).
That is fine, it was just to see what their response was. It was not as negative as it could have been, but seems to indicate that there will not be any action anytime soon.
MaxWhamer - Hey, and 256X256 pixel texture stretched over such a large area will always look that bad. That is what this 'core textures' thing is all about. The larger the area they stretch one of these LoRes textures over, the worse it is. Recreating textures from scratch, is very time consuming to do properly, and these LoRes ones are so bad that they should not be used as a base. HD textures tried that, and frankly did a good job considering what he was working with (the LoRes textures). I have about 80 hours of work ahead of me over this weekend and the next week. When I am done that I will see what the state of texture modding is, and decide if I am going to continue modding DAO. If I am, then I may try to rally all the other texture modders, split the textures from the core among ourselves and rebuild all the LoRes ones. At about one hour per texture, that is 2000 hours of work. Bioware does not pay me enough to do all that myself. ;-)

I would love to see the normal textures released for modders too! Complaining about some mysterious "them" shutting down developer communications, or about the moderators apparent unfairness isn't going to help get those textures out. I hope your frustrations don't discourage you too much. Maybe someone at Bioware will figure out that it's easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission to do something. (hint hint)

Why would they do that? Because most people just argue about things on the forums, so there is no clear winner. That means that ignoring the problem is a viable solution for the Devs. In this case, not so much, but usually it works. The only thing that surprises me is that this is Bioware. I have been lied to by many game companies in the past, to a much greater extent than this, but never by a Tier 1 game company.
"we wanted to focus our resources on having the really awesome looking graphics",
"Of all the features the graphics engine is going to be the most visible. It's a next-gen engine...",
(http://www.videogame...eview-1344.html)
Awesome looking 256X256 textures stretched past the point of reason? No dynamic lights or Dynamic Shadows (like they had in their earlier engines) and yet they call it next-gen? Maybe when it is actually finished. Especially if they add in the rest of the missing current gen features such as DX10 support.
Outlaworacle - Getting any appreciation from a game company is rare. So far DMG (my group) has only ever received support from one company (and I was not part of that team). I get all my support from the fans, which is why I am modding this game. I posted a poll a month before it came out, and based on all the PR the public wanted me to work on it. So here I am.
