How do I make my allies drink potions on their own? I have given potions of heal light wounds to my party member, and his item use and use healing items are both set to on, but he never drinks them on his own. What do I need to do?
New player, probably a stupid question...

I notice they tend to use them more when you have them on there quick bar. I do this with light cure potions so they don't burn through the good ones. Allso do this with wands and other things. Though I allso notice they will or will not use items in there inventory. Had this happen the other night when I was useing one for storage and bang...he used the item (limited charge on it) so it went right back onto my char.

Odd.. I have the potions in his inventory, and he's set to use items, as well as use healing items, but he doesn't seem to use them unless I tell him to. Strangely, I have another character set to disarm and recover traps, and she also doesn't do this unless I specifically tell her to. Seems the AI just isn't working at all for me... am I missing something really obvious here?

Are they set to not cast spells? I don't know if it affects potions, but they won't use some other items unless they're set to "balanced casting" or higher.

They never like to use healing potions, they prefer to use the healing kits. They also tend to ignore lower level potions; that is, if the potion isn't high enough, they don't "waste their time" with it.

You may have accidentally turned off your AI... happens sometimes

Hi Miraa, welcome to Neverwinter - hope you enjoy your stay. Characters will drink potions mainly depending on their AI settings - open up their character sheet with 'C' and look at the Behaviour tab. There's a ton of settings on there - a tad overwhelming if you're not into micromanagment, but all handy once you get into the game. First off check that Puppet Mode isn't on - if it is, your companions won't do anything except stand around unless you tell them otherwise. Other than that just work your way through the list, and use the 'all' box if you want everybody to do the same. One annoying thing is that the spell casting setting defaults to 'overkill' which uses your spells up really fast - assuming you have a caster in the party. Not a problem in the official campaign where you can rest just about anywhere any time, but more of a problem in some community built modules where you can only rest in particular places or times (shameless plug - see links below).
