What're your thoughts on the oversexualized/unarmored Squaddies?

you know, for the lulz I'd really love to hear the throught process that lead Bioware to think those outfits were a good idea.

Seriously, there has to have been some sort of debate about it...so....how did it go?

Genuinely, I'm curious

I was a bit puzzled when i saw Ash in ME2 wearing her white and pink armor. I bought Onyx X Armor for her, why would she discard that? <...>

Oh no, I was reminded about the opening again...
Normandy is burning. Several people, XO included, are knocked down or killed. Player awaits for someone saving the situation...
And then appears he. Kaidan in pink and white outfit.
I honestly don't know what real purpose serves this male model of Phoenix armor (it's never used in game again, even on Horizon), but I kept giggling until Shepard got spaced.

About oversexualised characters: my major problems are why everyone but commander wear whatever they wish while Shepard is always fully armoured and what are they ingame motives to wear that (Mordin forgot to take off lab coat? Jack wants better aerodynamics for biotic flights? o_0)

They really need to stop thinking we're prepubescent children who crave T and A all the time in a game.

This. Also decent armour is sexy as well as practical.

Samara also wouldn't produce Ardat-Yakshi children if she mated with Shepard.

I've been wondering, but been too lazy to do the reseach:
Assuming the condition only ever breaks out in pureblood offspring, never cross-species; does the gene still propagate, even in the latter, though?

EDIT: I'm probably the only one who liked the thick asbestos carpeting of the ME1 armour tech, by the way - seemed "reasonable", so to speak, from a practical point of view.

this was also one of the few things that i kept wondering about. why the hell?

I'm not against sexy. Heck, I found armors in the original Mass Effect sexy. Those were tight also and I even started a female Soldier just because of the looks of that heavy Colossus X armor. (I'm a perv)

I think that most of the squad outfits in Mass Effect 2 look quite good for being on the normandy. And it isn't even that everyone keeps thinking we're going to land on Horizon because of a pyjama party with Ash/Kai, even with the current paralyzer-mosquito-pest. I actually like that the squad characters have their unique looks.
Even make them sexy, I bet there are quite a few that enjoy looking at pixel cleavage (including myself) or jacob's behind.

However it gets hilarious on several occasions, most of them mentioned already. (Derelict reaper, that Bloodpack mission etc.)

What they really should have done, giving each squaddie 1 casual outfit and 1 combat outfit. this way every character would still stand out on the battlefield, but it wouldn't feel quite as weird. I have the strong hope that this will be addressed in ME3.

I think it does not make sense to argue this with realism versus sci-fi or whatever. I will not even begin to read a codex entry just to try to justify my opinion. Wearing only facemask in deep space just ain't got style!

But ME2 is awesome still.

From what I can remember there's always a chance of producing an Ardat-Yakshi via two Asari mating regardless of the species of the grandparent(s).

I admit, I am too.  I mean, I'm all for individual looks but...really...?

Aha, ok.
With Samara it's apparently inevitable, though, suggesting it's not only a matter of one-off flukes, but something along the lines of genetics and consequently potentially hereditary.
One could combine the two assumptions and suggest the mating has a chance of producing, not a fully-fledged Ardat-Yakshi, but the potential in genome.

EDIT: Aesthetic/lore/technical_viability decisions aside, I'm pretty sure I recall the developers stating they wanted to give the characters clearly identifiable profiles on the battlefield. "There's a generic mook, there's  doc and strawberry lady."
