Bioware not being able to implement bowstrings has to be because of something out-dated with their engine. Takes all of two doublesided polygons to create it in something like Max or Maya. Certainly couldn't be any difficulties in creating the animations either, since last time I played an archer in DA2 he was able to draw back his invisible bowstring just fine.

What makes me wonder about this is why Bioware didn't just get a license to use whatever the latest edition of the Unreal engine is, if they were having graphical difficulties and etc. Game companies using Unreal as a base for their engine seems to be pretty typical and what all the kool kids (heh) seem to do.

I'm pretty sure their current engine is just the heavily modified child of another heavily modified child of an older version of Unreal as it is. Pretty sure.

I can almost bet my life Skyrim will have around 60 different bows to get. Some which are enchanted and have particular powers/percentage/duration/distance. How many bows can one acquire in DA2?

60 bows, 6 voice actors.

Fallout 3 had 36 VA's, I'm pretty sure Skyrim will have around, if not, more than that number.

Don't you know?  On these forums, we make outlandish claims about games which have disappointed us and act like children.

Which is about as many VOs as DA2 outside the protags. Your point was an utter failure though E for effort and ****.

DA2 is a mediocre game for me, though I'm not dissapointed in it, I knew it would happen due to my hunch and recognizing the signs before hand (EA buying off BioWare, 2 year dev time, ME game feature imports [dialogue wheel], etc.)

But on the main topic of bowstrings. Bowstrings are absent in DA2, just like in DA:O. And when you have relic games such as Morrowind, Legend of Zelda, etc having bowstrings, y'know there's a problem.

More importantly : neverwinter nights had them (EDIT: eventually)...

No it's not the end of the world, but out of all the stuff that was redesigned between DAO and DA2, that was another good candidate.

Not initially, if I recall correctly; had to be patched, I believe.

Maybe in Oblivion. It is confirmed Skyrim will have over 80. And, musically, a full professional choir will be singing in a created Dragon language for this game. Yes...they invented a dragon language for this game.

It is also confirmed that there will be over 120 dungeons, fully fleshed out and immensely diverse. Filled with all sorts of goodies.

Pretty much everything oblivion was criticized for has been addressed vigorously. And beyond that, it has been developed with loving care.

Isabella's boobs bounce at least. Developers worked real hard on that I bet.

Lol.

Really?

They couldn't find a way to keep the killing blow animations yet they made Isabela's boobs bounce?

Vault Boy approves.

Yep. They bounce alright. Wish that "attention to detail" was diverted from ****** to something that needed it more. <_<

You have to prioritize. Radon Labs tried to do bouncing boobs and bowstrings and while the results were certainly eye pleasing (meet Fayris) the developing costs of Drakensang 2 were too high and the company went bankrupt.

Shows attention to detail that this PoS rushed out game doesn't have. Games done with with a minimal fraction of DA's MKTG budget have them, what does that say about Bioware?

Heh, I made a post about this a couple of months before DA2 was released. I was half expecting a Bioware dev to come out and give me the same excuse they like to give, "Would you rather have bowstrings or have more meaningless quests in the same old dungeons?".

This topic opens a whole nasty can of worms really about the art direction of the game. It would be nice if they would make working bows in the game but it would also be nice if weapons were realisticly hung on characters and didn't float on their backs, bladed weapons had sheaths, character models came in varying scaled heights and girths, ect, ect. Most of the time people claim this messes with cutscene creation. Does it really mess with that many cutscenes? Most of that can be circumvented with simple camera positioning and a little extra work. The excuses that having swords on a character's hips and sheaths for said swords would lead to clipping issues is a joke since even a star character like Flemmeth clips with her custom outfit in DA 2.

What I find amusing is also what Radwar brings up, with the excuse of people saying that you can have either one thing or the other in a game...yet the topics are entirely unrelated to each other's departments. Are the writers working on modeling too at Bioware? I kind of hope not! Hopefully there are departments that focus on certain areas.

Drakensang should also be made mandatory to anyone complaining about DAO shuffling, just to provide some perspective what sluggish and clunky placement/combat system really means... Image IPB

(in all fairness it's in part because the system is quite transparently turn-based but it doesn't make the experience any better)

The first game already had boobs and bowstrings. Not to mention characters look mostly the same as well. Insisting on full voice-over was the biggest contribution to their downfall.

But, at least the combat system features parry and dodge animations, rather than two characters swinging at each other non-stop like idiots, similar to Dungeon Siege.

Sorry too distracted by the Khajit and how it looks like an actual race and not just a disproportionate retextured human model.

THIS!! :o

'Cause races like Whites, Blacks, Asians, Pacific Islanders, American Indians, and Alaskan Natives are distinguishable thanks to physical attributes like large horns, twiggy frames, and scaly or furry skin with lizard or cat heads and tails.

Frankly, I liked that DA:O kept their races so similar. It made the racial tension and sympathy all the more relatable, and helped distinguish the world of DA from the more fantastic ones like WoW and ES with their cat, lizard, minatour, orc, night elf, blood elf, et cetera races.

But I too can't wait for Skyrim! Go Team Argonian! :alien:

On topic, the absence of bowstrings didn't really bother me because the distanced scale at which I almost always play DA leaves next to no appreciation for it. If anything, I'm more distracted by cartoonishly large bows in the hands of twiggy elves.

That bow looks like it weighs as much as the person holding it.
