Old teammates vs new characters

What was the point of having a suicide mission if we just get plenty of replacements in ME3? I think the term 'cannon fodder' describes it perfectly if that is the case.

So we have two options with former teammates: stasis or forcible reduction of loyalty, like with VS. Not looking forward to either.
Were Ron and Hermione the same at the end of Deathly Hallows as they were at the beginning of Sorceror's Stone?
You people need to read more. And watch more TV. And learn about character development. And think outside the box.

To be fair, if my bro4life came back from the dead to team up with the bad guys, I'd be a bit pissy, myself.I myself ain't taking kaidan back. he can grovel and show his Spectre gadge all he wants, but after Horizon, he lost all the respect he had from me. To think I liked talking with him more then any other person in the ship. What a royal douche, pulling that crap in Horizon. He better do some pretty cool stuff in ME3's 20m. intro for me to like him again.

No excuse. He comes back fighting the threat everyone (for some reason) forgot about and he abandons me? He betrayed me, plain and simple. I lose respect for people rather quickly, very quickly, qhen Im pissed off or stabbed in the back. I felt both. If he's forced, he's gonna be everyone's meatshield...... or Gardner's help.

At the beginning of "Sorcerer's Stone" Ron and Hermione are strangers.
At the end of "Deathly Hallows" they're in romantic relationship.
At the beginning of ME2 Miranda and Shepard are strangers.
At the end of ME2 Miranda is perfectly loyal to Shepard, and possibly even in a romantic relationship with him.
At the end of ME3...Miranda is even more perfectly loyal to Shepard and even in a more intense romantic relationship with him?
Or perhaps they're once again strangers?
What kind of further development do you suggest?
...TV series don't have the same requirements as trilogies. They can go on and on without relationship between characters changing in the slightest. They don't need change to be successful. People like the stability about them.

A little bit of both would be fine. Especially since 2 of my 4 Sheps lost part of their squad in the SM.
Sorry Tali (twice), Thane (twice), Samara, Garrus, Jacob, Jack, Grunt, Miranda and Legion. Yep, we will need a new pool of recruits on those two games.
Yeah, that's true. I do wish Bioware would be a little more cutthroat about it though: "Oh, you killed 10 of your squaddies? Great, you suck, have fun playing ME3 with 4 total squad members (2 from ME1, and the 2 required to live through ME2)."
Either that to encourage saving more crewmembers, or at least installing new squadmates that have established lore within the past two games who can't be killed, like Anderson, Daro'Xen, or Feron. Not n00bs who leave you wondering where the heck they were in the past two games.
I just wish that you could accept or decline since I don't like all the characters. Jacob was killed on purpose by my femshep because I couldn't stand how the dev's made her interact with him. Kill Jacob, problem solved. You know, you have 10 slots and 20 potentials .. Let me choose who joins my crew this time.

They also went from nerdy kids to kicking Death Eater ass. Think of how they grew as people, not just how they made babies at the end of the last book (dammit, Rowling).laecraft wrote...

Who gives a f*ck about whether or not she's boning Shepard? There's so much more to her as a character! What about her feelings towards Cerberus? Does she still believe in putting humanity first even if she's no longer a member? Will she struggle with her old ideologies? And what about her relationship with the rest of the squad? Will she learn to tolerate Jack? How did working with so many aliens change her? Also, there's her family--will we run into her father at some point? Will she struggle with being unable to come to her sister's rescue this time as the Reapers invade? At the beginning of ME2 Miranda and Shepard are strangers.

Think of the whole character, not just the part that pertains directly to Shepard.
And a trilogy is a series jammed together with the filler cut out....TV series don't have the same requirements as trilogies. They can go on and on without relationship between characters changing in the slightest. They don't need change to be successful. People like the stability about them.
ME2 played a lot like a TV series, when you think about it.

I was a little pissed that Ron and Hemione became "lovers" only after 30m. of movie time. All else was camping....... just camping...........
It was smoother in the books. They had less time in a movie to show the progress of their relationship.
Although, even in the books, I didn't see it coming until the book six. Harry and Hermione had much more chemistry, in my opinion. More shared adventures, that's for sure. And romance with a comic relief? Ugh. Hermione, you can do better!
To be truthful, Harry and Ginny makes me cringe too. So very...sudden.

I know. As I said, I agree that until a character is dead, there could always be more character development. I want to discuss only their relationship with Shepard because it's the only part that a player can affect directly. It's important for me because it's the interactive part of the game. That's what it makes it different from stories in other forms, like novels or movies.
I'm speaking of their personal interactions where you can choose how to respond and which direction to take your relationship. That's the easiest part for developers to deepen because it doesn't have to affect the main story. I'm not sure if we can have a chance to learn more about characters in "show, don't tell" style, because it would have to take more screen time, and detract from the main battle.
So, unless Miranda has some key role in the main quest, like she did in ME2, we will have to be content with personal interactions. Maybe a side quest where she's caught in the crossfire between Cerberus, Alliance, Shepard, and the Reapers. If we're lucky, it will be voiced.
What I'm saying, seeing how many characters are optional to survive, what are they chances that they will be "pivotal"? By pivotal, I mean having key roles in the main story, having extensive voiced scenes, and a lot of satisfactory dialogue essential to the quest.
ZERO CHANCES, I'm telling you! And seeing them reduced to "calibrations"? Never again! Better they be gone, go off in the blaze of glory, give them a noble end they deserve!

In short, there is plenty to talk about, especially if the missions you do affect everyone, and not just one person at a time.

I would prefer getting old characters and some character development for them, to all new squad. I know that Shepard is practically a James Bond, but the parts that I liked about James Bond stories is that there are still persistent characters in the series, sometimes even persistent villains - it gives the overreaching story more continuity - it creates a larger world instead of pieces and shards that don't matter once you are done with them, it allows for characters to become more 3-dimensional rather then just named extras that you don't even care for. I want to care for the characters I meet in game, I want to give a flying.. frack to what happens to them, I want to know that they are important, that saving them, that having their trust is important, I want to see their story, not just Shepard's story.
Definitely want to kiss you for saying that, but don't want to earn your wrath for doing so.... Looks like I'll put you on the "Buying you beer" list.

I know, right?
FemShepard, who is NOT romancing Jacob: (in a luscious voice) I'm just interested in...talking for a bit.
Me: (CRINGE!)
And when I tried that romance option...UGH. I had no idea my Shepard could act so repulsive. You can see the shock on Jacob's face when she announces her interest in him, and the way he's thinking, "****, why me? What do I do now?" And then he tells her that he never thought of her this way, and she announces that the only thing that matters is that SHE is interested. So, after she keeps harrashing him, he manages to somehow stave her off...
I know it was done for pacing, but it feels like he's desperate to find a balance between catering to her wishes and outright telling her to leave him alone.
I didn't progress the romance further, to see if it gets better. I reloaded.
And since I don't want to hate my Shepard, I hated Jacob for it.

Pretended he didn't exist. He's probably much better with a male Shepard. Although I wonder if he's just as rude when you ask him to talk.
He was made for the female Shepard because he is just odd sounding if you are a male Shepard . there is something off about his character .
