Yeah, well even if in some AU DA2 would be put out as GOTY edition, I wouldn't buy it. Skyrim on the other hand...I would buy any edition just to play it but would shell out some serious money on a GOTY edition of it!

Lets not forget Batman Arkham City in October. If its anything like Asylum, it surely will be a strong contenter. (And PC will have Assassins Creed Brotherhood on that list as well)

No offense, but what hate? DA2 is a rushjob. Reused levels, lots of evidence of all the cut corners. Thats your standard for a Game of the Year? The best game which hit the market all year? I don't need to hate DA2 to be sure that it is no GOTY material. There have already been games this years which had less technical difficulties, didn't reuse levels and overall a much more professional craftsmanship of a product.

And even if all that would have been better for DA2, we could still argue about the overall story, especially about Act 3.

DA2 is easily a GOTY contender.

Anyways, I think that Dragon Age 2 will invariably come up in RPG GOTY Contender lists. In many cases, "major gaming sites" may not even mention Witcher 2 because it's a PC exclusive (as of now) essentially leaving the race down to DA 2, ME 3 and Skyrim.

I think a dark horse in this matter is Dungeon Siege 3 though. I really want to see how Dungeon Siege 3 does in particular against DA 2.

They seem to be heading into the same kind of game. But started in totally different directions. DS is basically a Diablo clone and DA is the spiritual successor to BG. Would be hilariously sad if DS 3 manages to have deeper and better RPG elements than DA 2.

A hack n slash turned RPG vs an RPG turned hack n slash.

Yes, it will feature in the RPG of the year category as a contender, but I doubt it will make any GOTY at all.

And the Witcher 1 did rather well back in 2007 in the RPG of the year competitions, so dunno.

As for goty.... i think it has ZERO chance it doesnt deserve nomination the highest score from places i trust were low 80s well below par for GOTY nominees in my books.

This is what my first thought was too. it is not about the quality of DA2 but about the lack of competition in terms of quantities.

If DA2 counts as RPG so will Deus Ex 3 add that to the competition and since 4 is such an unnice number I think that dungeon siege 3 will probably also get a nomination

Also, DA 2 is a perfectly fine Action RPG. If the Mass Effect games (especially 2) are considered Action/Shooter RPGs, then really, why wouldn't Dragon Age 2 be considered an Action RPG?

Well, okay, it's not perfectly fine. It's got enough flaws to fill the Deep Roads. But you know what I mean.

This is what my first thought was too. it is not about the quality of DA2 but about the lack of competition in terms of quantities.

Yeah, they have 3-5 tiles normally right? It might actually placed 4 or 5 among the SP RPGs at the end of the year for many, and even get a few 2-3 spots, and maybe maybe one top RPG of the Year spot given how many rewards are handed out (and if Skyrim, the Witcher 2 and ME3 partly fails, as then there would be some wiggle room for a random site to promote DA2).

I believe that there is a site with staff that believe that Dragon Age 2 so epitomises what makes a great roleplaying game, that they will award it with an RPG of the Year title.

A site with maybe small, but decent enough size, will give it to Dragon Age 2.

You just watch.

I wouldn't listen to any site that gave this game either a 100 or a 0. The Answer is usually somewhere in between.

I'd urge anybody thats played this game, even if they liked it, to read the Escapists review of DA2 on metacritic, difficult to see it as unbaised and objective.
