I don't think that DA 2 could receive a single nomination for the game of the year, but of course some of the reviews, especially some of the earlier ones, were almost as unlikely too. So if those reviewers can't or won't admit that they were wrong, perhaps they'll try to "prove" their opinion to be valid by giving DA 2 such an award after all.

I liked the game quite a bit, but I just don't think so. Not that I want BioWare to fail or anything, my hope is that ME3 will be awesome and win GOTY 2011.

With The Witcher and Skyrim and possibly Deus Ex HR...all with massive development time, I don't know how DA2 could stand up to them at all.

What is DIII?  Anyways, DA2 is not GOTY material.  I don't even think Portal 2 is GOTY material.  Sure the game is very well done, and very fun, but I don't know, it just doesn't feel like one.  With how DA2 turn out, I have douts about ME3 being GOTY.  Perhaps Skyrim, or any other game that is to be released this year, it is still too early.  Who knows, even Witcher 2 is looking very promising.

Exactly. Even mentioning DA2 in GOTY discussion is utterly preposterous.

And, RPG gaming has been going mainly downhill since BG series, with only a few flashes of brilliance in between. Of course most kids posting here weened on consoles have no idea what a true RPG is supposed to look like. It's downright embarrassing.

I don't think Diablo 3 is coming out this year, and Obsidian is not capable of making GOTY.  Deus Ex 3 got a lot to live up to, but I think this one might be the one sequel we've been all waiting for.  And if DA 2 gets it, then EA is throwing away a lot of money to bribe all those sites.

edit: I am not attempting to trash DA2 by starting this thread. I am simply trying to show the general consensus of the game away from bias. At the time of this posting, approximately 1000 posters have participated in the poll.

Sounds like someone that has completely overlooked Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim which will be released later this year, my money is on Skyrim.

Between Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3, Duke BLOODY Nukem Forever, Batman: Arkham City, Total War: Shogun 2, Gears of War 3 and others...well sorry but Dragon Age 2 would be very hard pressed to win.

I like DA2 more then I like Origins, but I can't see it winning.

Look, its ok to like DA2 and say it's a fun game in spite of some embarrassing flaws. GoTY? Not even close. Comparisons to DAO aside, not even close compared to what else is still coming this year.

Before you claim Skyrim will end up GOTY or Witcher 2, remember that Demon's Souls got GOTY when it was released and Dark Souls is the successor to that game and is being made for the 360 too. Unlike Skyrim or Witcher 2, it's pretty much a hardcore RPG that is more difficult than even Origins played on the highest difficulty. So some of you will probably not like it but I think this is where true hardcore RPG fans will be while those new to RPGs will be with Skyrim, ME3 and Witcher 2.

I really like Damon's Souls, but to call it a hardcore cRPG is an insult to cRPGs - Demon's Souls is an Action RPG, and it does it very very well, and it was easily a worty GOTY winner when it came out, but when I talk cRPGs I don't mention Demon's souls despite it being way better than DA2 for example, since it's a different type of game, or Diablo 2 and Fallout 2 are not in the same genre.


EDIT: I don't see skyrim as a good cRPG either, nor ME3 and with Witcher 2 I have to see - and maybe that ME3 will remedy some of the lack of roleplaying that was lost in ME2 (and ME1 actually)  - but we'll see.

DA:O on the highest difficulty level was as difficult as tieing my shoes.

There is absolutely zero chance. None at all. You can quote me on that. Dragon Age II got 82/100 metacritic score which makes it worth picking up on offer but an absolute laughable contender for GOTY. It's already been beaten by decent games such as Mortal Kombat, for example. Portal 2 is a country mile ahead with 96/100. Skyrim is the sequel to a game that also got 96, TW2 looks impressive, there will be a new Super Mario (both galaxy games got 97) on 3DS, Zelda Skyward Sword is the sequel to a 96 game, Mass Effect 3 is the sequel to a 96 game...

To even consider Dragon Age II amongst the above games is laughable, and that's not even considering other games that will most likely surpass DA2 such as Batman: Arkham City, GOW3, Dark Souls, Dungeon Siege 3...

Demon's Souls did not get GOTY. Maybe at one or two publications but the industry standard is to use metacritic - all developers use metacritic to judge the quality of their games since it's the average of critics. Laidlaw said himself that they aim for 90+ on Metacritic.

Demon's Souls got 89/100 which is impressive but Uncharted 2 got GOTY with 96. COD MW2, Need for Speed Shift and Street Fighter IV got 94, Forza 3 and Batman AA got 92, Fifa 10, AC2, DAO got 91... Etc
