Curious... No one mentioned Uncharted 3 as a strong contender.
Uncharted 2 was GOTY at 2009 and I believe that U3 will be a contender for GOTY too. No idea if it will win (a lot of competion this year), but for me it has much more chance than DA2.
Ooh, nice one... Forgot all about that. This really is a really awesome year for games.

Nah. DA1 would.
One of my biggest criticism for DA:O actually was that there was too much combat in it, and too little ways to talk things through or just stealth past mobs etc.
Now instead of making DA2 to have less combat in it, they removed everything else but combat from it.
I think it is bit of a stretch to say that DA:O had more combat in it than DA2 however. There is usually around 30-50 opponents in just one fight after all in DA2.

I would say they have about equal amounts of combat. Then again, a typical BIO game has lots of conmbat. Heck, do people not remember the near 100xvarts you could fight in BG1? Or dozens of beholders and flayers in BG2/ Combat has always been a pretty big part of BIO games. Heck, that's a staple of rpgs as a genre. The classics, afterall, were ALL ABOUT combat and leveling your characters.
And, they didn't remove anything else. You can talk yoruself out fo combat, you can stealth around combat, and etc. Though why the ehck would you stealth past combat in either game? Does make sense.

DA:O is at least twice as big as DA2 is. So if you compare DA2 has much more combat.
And they removed diplomacy and all other non combat skills. And not everyone plays games or rpgs just to kill as much mobs as possible. I certainly don't so I like the option of avoiding combat.

DA1 = 59 hrs DA2 = 56 hours
"And they removed diplomacy and all other non combat skills."
I hate the fact they removed these skills, but there is still diplomacy in the game, and you can avoid combat through dialogue.
" And not everyone plays games or rpgs just to kill as much mobs as possible. I certainly don't so I like the option of avoiding combat."
i'd love the option to avoid combat but this option was no different than it was in DA1 or any other BIO game. *shrug* It seems kind of weak to complain about DA2 over this issue but not DA1.

Well these are mine.
DA1 = 78 hrs DA2 = 36
There aren't many times you can do this, and sometimes it takes some random team mate of yours that you can't possibly know is needed. But sure there are few times you can do this.Volourn wrote...

If you'd had actually read what I posted you would have noticed that that was one of my criticism about DA:O actually. So yes I did had that complaint in DA:O as well.

I was going to make some quip about Skyrim, but I honestly hope it's good. I really want to enjoy Bathesda games - I really do. But their track record of terrible stories, bugs, lifeless characters, and poor out-of-package gameplay just makes it difficult to beleive Skyrim will be anything but a pretty game with little actual substance.Agamo45 wrote...
DA2 is an average game at best, I don't think it can compete with ME3 (if the ME team keeps up the high level of quality that was in the first 2 games) or Skyrim.

Games with less than stellar main stories that are non-epic in scope and open worlds that are full of life are the type of games Beth makes. While Bioware normally makes games with great main stories in worlds that are tiny and linear.
Despite the your list of subjective issues with their style and vague issue with substance, their track record leads to me to believe that Skyrim will follow Bethesda's formula and be both critically acclaimed for it and have sales figures to match.

Skyrim will win GotY, it's no question, all Bethesda games win GotY's.
ME3? It has a good shot.
TW2, same as ME3, it has a good shot.
Portal 2? Seriously, a puzzle game isn't going to win GotY.
DA2? You're joking right?
Right now I'm excited for the 3-way battle of ME3, Skyrim, and TW2 for RPG of the Year, I'm hoping on TW2. Man it's going to be close.
