Hi
I don't know if this is in another thread somewhere, but I recently had to buy new PS3 due to blinking yellow/red LOD and am unable to do data transfer as will not stay on long enough to complete. I copied saves to external hd and then back onto my new PS3. Of course these are not recognied when I try and play the game.
Is this something that may be rectified once/if PSN is back up and running, or does anyone have any advice as to how I can get this sorted. I really don't want to have to replay the 30 hours that I have done so far, particularly as they are my game saves.
Unable to use saves from old PS3 on new PS3

As far as my experience went I got a new Slim PS3 at Xmas and had to re do Origins/Awak and the dlc's again as I couldn't transfer them from my old to new. I had 6 walkthroughs done with different classes which was a bummer.

EA locks the saves, and blames SONY for it. Sony blames EA
EIDOS found some magical potion that allows EIDOS games to have unlocked saves.

The only way to get old saves off the PS3 for some games and onto a new one is the Data Transfer. Some files will not save to a usb hd or flash drive, it has to be authenticated by the new PS3 as being on a old PS3 is the best basic explanation i can give.

try the hairdryer fix
It is similar to the towel trick for the xbox 360. So here it goes.
1.READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE STARTING:
2.You need to take everything out of your playstation 3 BOX, (foam, plastic, etc...).
3.Put your playstation in FACING DOWN so that the back vents ARE FACING UP AT YOU.
4.Take a hair dryer and turn it on HIGH, (I had mine running at 125 volts).
5.Keep the hair dryer blowing into the back vents for 15 minutes, taking a 1-2 minute break every 5 min
6.just go BACK AND FORTH( Really important) across the back vents. and keep the blow dryer about 4 to 5 inches AWAY FROM PS3
7.After that, put it in front of a fan or A/C vent, fridge,or fan for about 40 minutes, or until it is cooled off.
8.Then plug it in, and it should work.
The reason you do it in the box, is that it traps the heat in the system. What you are doing is creating a conventional oven inside the system.

Yes you can.
So, if you have PS+ you can copy your saves to online storage. Then 24 hours later you could copy them from online storage to your new PS3. (They put in the 24 wait time to prevent exploiting the feature.)
At least, you can do that once PSN is back up.
I don't know that I'd get PS+ just to do that, but I've been quite happy with everything you get with it.
