Is this seriously Ashley's new armor?

Yes, I know, it's a lot late, but I didn't have the issue before now so I could look at a decent version of the picture.

Turn to page 55 of the gameinformer magazine.

As a Soldier class, Ashley has always had access to the Heavy class armor.

So why is she now wearing a glorified leather bodysuit?

It's like she's underequipped compared to everyone else!

Heck, even Kaiden (if that's him with MaleShep and Liara on page 46-47, I don't know what he looks like) has better armor!

Shouldn't the hardline Soldier have better armor then the Biotic Specialist?

I know personally I couldn't take the ME2 squadmates seriously unless they were going into battle with at least light armor.

Combat intensive squadmates like Ashley should have the heaviest armor they can get their hands on, not a leather suit with metal plates attached.

I really hope that is not her ingame armor!

This has been discussed a lot. I agree with you, btw.

The best I can hope for right now is that the suit is her 'casual attire' for the Normandy, and that she has better combat-ready armour for the missions.

She does look like she has been Mirandafied, but I'm not jumping to conclusions just yet.

At this stage we only have a single early promotional image (cf TIM in trailers and in game). Never mind that the ability to wear heavy armour does not imply that one is unable to not wear heavy armour, or that heavy combat armour is always the best choice. Not every assignment will require walking very slowly in a straight line towards the enemy's fortified position or similarly stupid line infantry tactics.

As a Soldier class, Ashley has always had access to the Heavy class armor.

Technically that's not even true since Ash is able to eventually learn how to use heavy armour and cannot do so when Shepard first meets her on Eden Prime.
Edit To Clarify: "Soldier class" implies that this about game mechanics rather than lore ("as a soldier" vs "as a Soldier class")

Do you actually believe that's her combat armour? Seriously? Just look at Kaidan, she will proabably have similar armour to his.

That "catsuit" is just her casual wear.

I think OP means it in lore. As for her suit, that will probably be subject to change. The circle pattern on her shoulder seems to appear on Garrus' new armour as well.

Also, the make-up. Where did that come from? :D

But yes, this might just be the get-up she wears to the trial.

There have been several posts about this already but from what I've gathered, this is more of her casual wear than actual armor.

That's what people said about Miranda and Samara right up until release.

True, but you can be pretty sure the team is aware of the complains about those now.

There's a difference between "Ash will be wearing a catsuit in ME3", "we know Ash will be wearing a catsuit in ME3" as well as "we don't want Ash to wear a catsuit in ME3"

I hope you're right.... My Shepard will still love Ashley but he'll be more relunctant to bring her on missions if that's her armor choice.

Judging by screenies of Cerberus goons, the armour for ME3 got a LOT bulkier compared to ME2, and even more so from ME1. It was cool that Ash and Wrex were the only ones who could wear heavy armour in my game.

Still rooting for huge, walking tank armour. 3 layers of metal and ceramic plating, heavy kinetic shields and gauntlets three times the size of a normal human hand. Wouldn't really need a third team mate then, though ^_^

too be honest from what I could see it was not that bad granted it looks alot lighter than before but it still looks like armour to me and it looks better than the old ME1 and ME2 armour she wore.

and you got remember we are yet to see all of it we have only seen the head of the top so the theory of it being the normandy outfit could be correct we do not know yet

I wouldn't be surprised if that is her combat attire.

I'm just as worried, but is there any point in making freakout threads based on a single image?

I swear telling this forum to be patient is like teaching Latin to a dog.

8 months until the game comes out. Debate is inevitable, no matter how small the topic. Encouraged, even. I can't wait that friggin' long focusing on something else! I. Need. Mass. Effect!

The trial begins... Three robed figures walk up to a levitating plateau in the centre of the room.
"The Ordo Hereticus finds you guilty of treason, Battlebrother. Your name shall be stricken from the holy records. You have damned the worlds you saved to Exterminatus, to diminish your heretical influence."
