For the 100th time, Sheploo is their default Shep.

Damn mang.

I am very much sure that everyone on this forum knows that. However, that fact still does not stop those of us that want a little representation on the box.

They paid Mark Vanderloo probably a lot to use his likeness on the game. Why wouldn't they put it on every cover?

No point spending money for a face model only to use a digitalized face for advertisement.

Deal with it.

That's fine, but i think they could find a place for Femshep somewhere in addition to MShep. I'd imagine it would help grab some female buisness while not alienating the male buisness.

Also, "Deal with it' isnt exactly the best attitude to have to get your point accross Image IPB

Our gender. There are a LOT of females out here. More females are getting into the gaming market.

Psh, and my Dad complains I'm addicted after getting me so by playing Contra and Ninja Turtes with me over and over....

FemShep.

@lolwut666

Deal with what? That FemShep isn't on the box? Yes, we have been dealing with this for some time, but talking about it is hardly spazzing out about her lack of presence or anything. "Deal with it" just seems like a poor response to anyone posing a topic about something that isn't the norm.

People would be more prone to pay attention to or ignore a game because of the gender on a cover? That's a little shallow :?

I didn't get into the ME crowd till late as well. It just didn't interest me because I thought that MShep was your only option, but then some friends told me about FemShep and I was went out to get both games as soon as I could.

Same actually. Learning I can create a female hero actualy got me to buy it and games like Divinity II faster than I would have.

*Looks up this Divinity II and is intrigued*

See how easy that is?  Now imagine being able to get me to do that simply on account of first impression boxart.  ^_^

I dont ignore games because they have men on them. Some of my favorite games had male protagnists (or dragons squeeSPYROsquee). But honestly, seeing a woman is refreshing and yes, it can help with the female market because of this. What is wrong with having a woman that kicks ass on the cover anyways?

I see. I don't know, the ME series has been this way since its inception, it won't change is what I'm saying. It's pointless to bring up again and again. There's nothing wrong with the woman on a cover, didn't mean to sound like there was a problem.

Cant tell if you were agreeing or trying to disproove my argument but...

I dont ignore a game's story or basic combat and stuff either. What happens is it grabs my attention, i then look it up / ask questions, then buy it.  There are others that had female protagonists that i ended up not liking and glad i avoided rash buying (The 3rd Birthday anyone? FF13 ripoff...)

The reason is simply marketing. The Sheploo is the iconic image representing the ME series; add in more images, and it gets confusing and less iconic. Also, marketing a strong male protagonist is probably more successful, considering the possible audience and past marketing experience. I may not like it, but it does make sense.

Iconic is the real reason, though.

I understand it probably wont change. Wishing is still good for the soul, and maybe if the dev's hear us they'll include a female protagonist on one of their future covers sometime. Whether that be a future ME game, or DA3, or whatnot...

There are women on the cover of both ME1 (Ashley) and ME2 (Miranda).

They're not the PC, but if you're new to the series, how would you know that?

And once you buy the game, you'll find out that it is possible to play with a female.

Besides, Mass Effect is a very famous franchise. By now, nearly every gamer knows at least a little about it. That you can choose which gender to play as in Mass Effect must be common knowledge.

Exactly. I've already played a ton of games with a man in the postion of the coveted badass character. It's predictable and I didn't feel like forking out money for ME at first. Then I hear that there is the option to play as a female character that is just as badass? I can hardly ignore that, especially when I heard that FemShep is awesome and voiced by Jennifer Hale. I was completely sold after that.

yes, but thats not the point. I meant a female main protaginist. Not for ME3 as nice as it would be, but possibly for a future Bioware game.

Mass Effect 3 probably won't have Shep on the front, if it does , it'll probably be a dark silhouette. It's either that or Sheploo most likely. What does it matter? The game itself is the important part anyway. 80% ME players play manshep, so it's silly to think that EA is gonna spend more money on releasing multiple covers. Plus, the default femshep is butt-ugly, no way is she going on the front of an EA game. so there is little to no chance of that happening, so as someone else put it, deal with it.

But how many of that 80% also played a femshep? How many played Femshep first or MShep first? Would be interesting to see the statistics...

Also, i personally think she's pretty. Now, stop with the silly dismissing attitude. It's not very pretty.

She's a cute redhead.

I really wouldn't think there would be a cost implication in producing a femshep variant artwork for the cover.
I mean my DA2 cover is black and silver (signature ed.) and different to the normal red and white one.

That's too bad. Mass Effect is amazing regardless of gender =/

It's scary to think some female gamers would pass and miss out on an incredible game because of the protagonist being a male, and vice versa with male gamers with female protagonist.

Agreeing.  I've got plenty of games on my shelf to play (or replay), and there are plenty of new games out there (or old games that I've missed) to sift through for a good game experience.  The Divinity II case appears to be a guy with a dragon... were I in the store, I'd probably pass it by without looking at the back because I have plenty of high fantasy RPG games with dragons and guys and things.  That is, I like high fantasy, but I've already got a lot of choose from, with and without moldable protagonists, with and without dragons.

Although researching before you buy is always important, it's that first grab that's going to get people's attention that'll make them research.
