I just finished reading this book.  If you didn't get into Origins, but just loved DAII, then I don't recommend this book for you.  Over 90% of the story takes place in the Deep Roads.  But if you loved grinding it out at Ortan Thaig and the Deep Trench and the Fade, you'll love this book like I did.  I also think that this book should be read after playing DA Origins because the ending will make you smile or laugh. But it should be read before Awakenings because it'll explain a lot of what goes on in that game.

David Gaider's writing is excellent.  For all the shortcomings being thrown onto DAII, the writing team is not to be blamed.
