 I bought DA II this afternoon keeping in mind that I am also going to buy a new device to play it on, seeing as my current laptop is kind of a failtard. I've been looking at a few devices and comparing to the video cards required to play DA II. Now, I'm kind of a techno-noob so all these numbers and letters have me a little confused.

The device I'm looking at right now comes with a Radeon HD 5470 512mb, and the system requirements on the back of my copy of DA II lists a Radean HD 2600 Pro 256mb and the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS 256mb cards. So does this mean I could run DA II on this computer I'm looking at? Is this Radeon 5470 better than the 2600 that the game requires? Do I need both the cards listed on the back of the DA II cover or just one?

Sorry if it sounds stupid, I'd just really like to know for sure before going out and spending 500 bucks on a laptop that won't even support my game. ^^;

I'll take it that's another laptop you are looking at. Laptop GPU's are usually relitively weak buisness graphics cards that just won't handle games well. You may be able to play on the lowest settings but are you really satisfied with that? To play a game well on a laptop you'll have to spend seroious money which could be better spent on a decent gaming machine. Personally i think if you are serious about playing PC games you should look at a decent mid level gaming desktop which won't cost a bomb and you'll have enough left over for a notebook you can use for work and multimedia when you want.

You don't need both the cards those are just the minimum from the graphics card brands available AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce. They are just suggestions however and many times the suggestions on the back of boxes are unrealistic. I'm afraid i don't know enough personally about top of the range gaming laptops to reccomend one to you but if you are willing to go for a desktop there are a lot of people on here including myself who would have some suggestions for you on what hardware to get to play Dragon Age II and have a decent experience where you can experience the graphics as intended.

Edit: I looked up this card (Radeon 5470) as i was curious and it's an entry level card that won't play games at all. Avoid getting a laptop with this card if you want to play games.

There's the ranking list for you.  The HD 5470 is off the bottom, below what is useful.  On an individual basis, even the one that Bioware named officially is pretty weak sauce for this game:

I think that the HD 2600 XT was a closer match to the official Geforce minimum than the HD 2600 Pro was.

If you are considering video card for a new desktop, either a 1GB NVIDIA GTX 460 (around $150) or 1GB AMD 5770 (around $110-120), would be at the low end of DX11 capable desktop cards.

If you are considering a laptop, your best and absolute cheapest choice would be to build a gaming desktop + buy an inexpensive laptop for non-gaming purposes. Much cheaper in total than buying a gaming laptop.

If you must buy a gaming laptop, get something with minimum screen resolution 1600x900 or 1920x1080 and laptop video card at least 1GB NVIDIA 460M or 1GB AMD Mobility 5830 (this one is based on the desktop 5770 card), or better. Both of these cards are DX11 capable and can handle most recent games at 1920x1080 on a laptop.

Now I'm not sure if you are in the states or not. But if you are and you want to check out a place for which I've been doing business with for over 20 years for all my PC builds send me a private message and I'll give you their name and number. They've got some of the best prices around that I've seen when it comes to PCs, laptops and other computer periphials.
